It's just... unbelievable... But not! Sad that you can believe it.

People hear about people being forced to work for piteous or no wages in places like China, tut, hear of the maltreatment and shake their heads, think its awful. I hope these people raise merry hell about this.

I did stewarding as a summer job. Most was based at Wembley Arena so you had a staff room and toilets and food. However, jobs done on site at events had no such guarantee. While I never had to sleep under a bridge, I'm not surprised that the company in question tried to get away with this. It really is unpleasant work sometimes.

Fair enough. I'd suggest that being made to do massively shitty work for free is significantly different to choosing to do it for money.

Only weeks away from workfare myself. No idea where I'll be placed yet, though. They had me doing it for a month a while ago, but this time it's a two-year arrangement. Needless to say, I'm desperately applying for anything at the moment. More so than usual, I mean.

So, are they promised good, long-term well-paid jobs in return for this free work, then?

The article said it was preparing for paid stints at the Olympics. It wasn't clear whether it was preparation for the individuals involved or the company though.

Not if I find a job! I don't know too much about it, but when I started the "work programme" I was told I'd have a few months of checking in with advisors and receiving some help followed by a period of simply working for my unemployment benefits, and that this can last up to two years. I'm coming to the end of my time with the nicey nicey matey advisors, so the velvet glove is sure to come off soon.

Was tricked into going to Wales. Again. Bought some books in Haye. Drank beer. New tent is awesome. Camp beds were awesome. I smell.

Man, you lot are making me want to buy games. I didn't bother clicking on the Kingdoms of Amalur thread for ages (because of its cliche fantasy name), but hot dog do I ever fancy it now.

And Dragon's Dogma. Sweet. Pay day needs to come. What was the last game to star Redareemer/Firebrand? He needs a new game.

I'm in a Starbucks before heading to the hospital for a medical. The caffine should up my pulse rate a bit, but I don't care (I rather enjoy trying to beat the heart rate monitor and seeing if I can influence my beats per minute by thought alone)

Nope, already had my shower. Popped back into bed. I have a shirt on. Just need knickers and a pair of jeans on, put on shoes as I'm leaving the door and I'n ready. Still in bed and I'll be leaving in about ten minutes, because that's the ace way to do it.

So, it turns out that the saga of "Grim... trying to get rid of someone in the office" was originally in B&B, and, despite some interesting stuff, remained in B&B. Bah.
Anyway, two B&Bs, a disciplinary hearing, a written warning and seven months later and we're moving onto "second disciplinary hearing" and then maybe another written warning and then maybe only one more hearing and we'll be there!

Pretty much just useless, so it's a collection of small things.

This time, however, it's not so small. If the "boss" boss think's it's "misconduct", then it could be all over next week. Excite!

And one day, a man got out of bed and thought "The world needs a conveyance like this" and then he set about welding stuff together. This was outside Fanny's, Saltaire.

Surely the guy must know by know that he's out? You'd think he'd just resign, for the sake of his CV.

Well, not really. I mean, he's had a verbal over something non-performance related, and a disciplinary / warning in January.
Also, of course, I cannot begin to imagine the legal ramifications of suggesting something like that to him.

I don't think he's even aware that he's about to be dropped in the shit due to what happened on Friday.

Many, many years ago, I was going through the local town centre in a car with my brother. As we approached an Indian gentleman on his bike, his turban unwrapped, wound itself around his back wheel and punted him into the road :D

I don't think he's even aware that he's about to be dropped in the shit due to what happened on Friday.

oooooh... What happened Friday?
