I told my colleague she could go at 9 if I could do likewise tomorrow. She agreed. In spite of it being fairly busy she has sat and nattered away to people for so long she's now an hour behind in her work and will likely still be here when the night shift (who takes over for both of us) comes in. I've even done some of her stuff since all mine is done but she just phoned her husband rather than crack on to get it all done.

I think Sony did that last year, too. Not sure how legitimate it is.

Huh. Some Norwegian blole did a half hour. Most of which we'd seen him do on the TV. He kept looking at his watch. 3/10.

Amstell did less than an hour and some bits were good, others not so much. Seemed pissed off people weren't so into him at times. 5/10

The theatre was ace, though.

"... cleared having you here with HR until the end of next month" said my boss, last month, as I'm still temping. That's today, right? I hope he's realised.

Cornish joke on Have I Got News For You sparks MP anger

Quote:
An MP has complained to the BBC and the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) over a joke about the Cornish on Have I Got News For You.

Oh, FFS. It's a comedy show, you're an MP (a Liberal, no less), get over it.

Besides, William Shatner saying the name of my home town was several degrees of awesome.

Still, at least he's campaigning against fuckwittery in others:

No apology over torch flag grab

Quote:
OLYMPIC bosses have failed to apologise after a policeman grabbed a St Piran's flag from the young Cornishman carrying the torch over the Tamar.

Liberal Democrat MP Dan Rogerson, who represents North Cornwall, urged them to say sorry for removing 20-year-old Andrew Ball's flag.

Colleague pressed my boss on this issue this morning. "It's Mali's last day, probably today, so I'd like to know if it is, so he can buy cakes at lunchtime for us all." Short of it is I'm still being a temp until director signs off on it as he's reluctant to make a decision on hiring new staff at present. So back to week by week uncertainty until unspecified events happen.

Bad news: No permanent role.
Good news: I get paid the same as if it were.

Polishing CV.

Hmm, not the best news but still ok for now then, MaliA.

The MD just started a conversation with: "So, flis, have you read that porn trilogy?" Many blank expressions, followed by the five people in the room then looking at me... He was talking about that Shades of Grey series or whatever it is...? I haven't read any of them and he was telling all of us his wife has the first one and keeps asking him what stuff is or what it means. One of the things he misheard as book club, turns out she actually said butt plug. And then they all looked around at each other trying to figure out what that was or why you'd use it. They decided it was a generation thing, so being 15 years younger than the next youngest person in the room, he started bombarding with me with all kinds of questions he had about this book.

I really do wonder about this place, at times.

Does that mean that the rest of us mortal men can now justifiably hate you and worry that your going to 'get it on' with our lady partners? Also you need to make sure that all future bosses are female, as the males will just be jealous and fuck you up stop you rising through the ranks unjustly. Damn it must be hard being you.

On an unrelated work matter, I've just said to my colleague over increasing several forecasts by some margin: "I think the main problem with this decision is that they're sticking a pig in a henhouse and expecting eggs".

The problem with holidaying in the UK is that I can understand what the Chavs are saying. At least when I go abroad and find myself in a virtually exclusive Russian/Italian/other nationality populated hotel I can pretend it is some form of cosmopolitan chic that I can't translate.

Quite a chucklesome thing from QI's twitter.

But also, more information needed! What the hell happened? Was it Toblerone-related?

I have an absess so it was either £600 for root canal and recrown with no guarantee of success or £40 to take the bugger out.

What a horrible sensation that was.

Can anyone else taste blood?
