Well, I think the UK equivalent of High Life will be Foster's Gold. PBR will have to be some kind of piss like Tuborg or Carling, I guess.

I never drink an ale or cider without first looking at their corporate image on my smart phone. And I always ask for the properly branded glass for each beverage, making sure the logo is on full display as I walk about the brothel.

I'm content with it being served in a brown paper bag while I sit on the park bench stinking.

There are quite a few bars in Cardiff that sell Red Stripe in cans.

This is quite a recent thing, isn't it? I like the mugs with handles, as a preference, but I couldn't really give much of a shit about any labelling on it.



Funnily enough, I was considering going for a beer in a lapdancing bar (possibly the one that wouldn't employ me, but that's another story for another day) with my friend later on, as it'd probably be quieter. And I like to help out with student's fees.

They used to sell it in tins at NY Sushi, when I went to supercool stuff like that, but then the townies found out about it and ruined it. Awesome nights they were, spending ages on the hip hop floor. Good place to pick up girls, too.

Red Stripe is sort of acceptable in that it tastes less like fucking lager than most lagers. So if you're in a pub run by idiots who think that offering fifteen different types of barely distinguishable beer (Carling, Stella and Carlsberg? I'm spoiled for choice!) is a good way to draw in customers at least you can have the least worst option if they've included Red Stripe in their 'selection'.

Assuming England don't get bowled out today, then Broad could become (I think) the 2nd person to get a test hattrick by taking wickets on 3 different days, that's if he manages to get a wicket on his first delivery in the 2nd innings!

I'm suggesting that stocking only lager, typified by those brands, doesn't constitute much of a choice for your beer drinking customers.

ETA: Actually, fuck it, yes; I'm suggesting that, faced with all the possible types and kinds of beers/ales available in the world, that those three taste similar enough as makes no difference.

I had Rooster's 'Yankee' beer in FFMC yesterday. It was quite crisp and refreshing.

I've got some Efes chilling in the fridge. Not often I have lager these days, but it was cheapo.

Wireless router experts! Is it generally a good idea to assign each of my devices its own IP address rather than letting the router dish the next one out every time they connect?

Basically, the Mrs was using her laptop earlier (which she rarely does), and coincidentally my PS3 got kicked off the network, along with my iPhone. Then upon powering my PC up (which is plugged into the router by ethernet), I was getting no internet connection at all, though I was still getting an internet connection through my iPhone (via WiFi).

My PC and iPhone both have "Always use the same IP address" checked, whilst the PS3 and the laptop (the PS3 being a recent addition, and the laptop hardly used) were left unchecked. Is it likely that the PS3/laptop were somehow conflicting with the assigned IPs my other devices had? And THEREFORE, would it be a better idea to give every device a specific IP.

I mean, I assume it's best to either assign everything or nothing, right? Anything in between is asking for trouble? Or could it just be that my router is shit and doesn't like more than a few devices at once?

Ouch on the price. It's £3.95 here in City Arms, which is still steep. Bloody lovely beer though, and I just love the label.

When I went to visit auntie and unky in Pennsylvania, they had loads of Pabst Blue Ribbon for me to drink. I was a bit confused by this, as auntie and unky don't drink. Turns out my dad bought loads when he came round three years ago, and the two crates were the left overs. I wasn't complaining.

You know what brand of English beer you can buy in Yellowstone? Sam Smiths! Consider me surprised (and quite pleased).

In between is fine, if you don't allow the router to dish out addresses that you've statically assigned. I have 1-154 usable by DHCP, and I just make sure that any statics I allocate are above that range.

Pete: yes, North Bar in Leeds. I'm happy to pay the premium as one of the staff seems to know everything about 'try this', which gets expensive but the SN was £4.40, and the 5 Barrels was £5 but worth it as a variety of merkin beers aren't readily available.

After Igot back, I met MrsA's work colleagues so looked like the pimp daddy, which more than made up for a pissed person holding a guitar FX pedal shout "your green coat is wank" at me. He clearly didn't realise it's Rohan and has zips for ventilation and a kangaroo pouch pocket which is most useful.

The Be Broadband router firmware doesn't let you fiddle that much. It's pretty restrictive. Therefore I conclude it's probably best to just assign them all. I should buy a better router. I really don't want to though after forking out mega wedge for a good one back in Teesside (not ADSL), that I left there to be used by my family. Bastards. They should buy me a good router.

I don't particularly fancy installing different firmware on the Be router because I'm pretty sure it's shite any way, and at the very least it's working now.

Watching the window seals leaking the rain in on the last train home. There's also a strong smell of diesel fumes to enjoy.

On the subject of beer, I find that pretty much every single pub in the country sells Guinness, which is preferable to piss water lager such as Carling and Fosters.

Guinness is my favourite anything in a pub.

I like wine at home, but it makes me fall over, so I don't drink it when out, too often.

The thing about Guinness is it tends to be consistently decent wherever you go, and as I said it's available EVERYWHERE. Barring, like, Samuel Smith pubs or whatever. Even decent lager can be extremely dodgy in my experience. Rarely does Guinness let me down. Guinness.

Getting decent Guinness around blackheath is nigh on impossible. Whether it is under-drunk so it's old when I buy it, there is something in the water which affects the pipes when they clean them or some other reason, one time out of four that I order it in various pubs, it's foul.

Hmm! It always seems to be one of the most popular drinks in the places I frequent, so it's usually decent. That's in both York and Teesside.

On my way home from the station, I encountered a crossing with a policing man standing next to it. I dutifully pressed the button and waited.

I think the hands in vest thing comes about through a combination of things like cold hands, unnatural arm position caused by wide vest and packed utility belt, difficult to put hands in pockets, standing around...
I think they're taught not to do it, so they have their hands free if they need to react quickly (like if someone attacked them).
