So I finally get back home for some quality couch time after my mission assignment in Amsterdam finished last Friday...and of course I've come down with a bloody cold...and I'm supposed to be going away this weekend to see some friends.

The human body truly has a rubbish sense of timing.

Can you be sure? She might be investigating topics which get discussed on forums in a completely unrelated manner.

Four months. I've got two weeks notice. Was supposed to be moving onto a new project, but that has been cancelled.

Can someone hit a big reset button on 2012 for me please?

So, with my brother, my family, my contract, my MSc dissertation and now... my wife has known a very good friend over in Buffalo, NY for the best part of 30 years. She studied over there for a year and was taken in by her family and they became her adopted US family. The friend got re-married on Saturday, unfortunately we couldn't make it. Anyway, the friends mother (a lovely woman), aunt and uncle were killed in a car crash Monday night.

If this is karma for having a brilliant start to the year in Singapore, then frankly this coming New Year will see me in Wrexham Travelodge.

I'm having a massively hard time getting any work done today. My anxiety is really flaring up about it - task in an area I don't know anything about, but that seems poorly defined, and related to other stuff that's in a heavy state of flux at the moment.

Sorry to hear about all your problems Plissken.

Bik, try speaking to your manager if you can. I'm sure they'd rather you ask questions so you can do the job right.

As for me, I'm on a massive downer today - started yesterday. Starting to get very fed up of being constantly up & down every few days, but my doctor is useless and I'm buggered if I'm ever going back on medication. Hmmm.

And, indeed: hmmm.

Hooray, the emergency work I've been doing to see me right while I wait for my new job has not been paid, causing me to now own literally no money at all*. Apparently they didn't know I was back at work, despite never having told them I was stopping working at the place I've been with since October, and them calling me in late March to ask what I'm doing and me telling them that I'll be working there during April So, timesheet 1 goes in three weeks ago. I get a text a few days alter acknowledging receipt and saying it had not been' duly authorised' and needed resending in its complete form. All that could possibly have been missing was a signature, so I asked my manager to check she'd signed it and refax it. She did so. I then sent the second timesheet a week later. Last week, no money. I phone the people who pay me, they say they just pay what they are told to and have no instruction for me. I call my agency rep, they fob me off onto payroll. Payroll say I need to speak to my agency rep. I go fucking mental at payroll. Payroll phone agency rep, then phone me back, asking if I've been called by agency rep. I have not. They suggest i phone agency rep, who blames my manager, me , payroll, anyone but themselves. Apparently I was 'archived' on the system to 'prevent fraud'.

Okaaaaay.

So I ask her to confirm that timesheet 1 will now be paid. Apparently, yes, if I wait another week. I ask about timesheet 2, very deliberately one-by-one to get a clear verbal confirmation from this bitch. She says no timesheet 2 was received. Funny, got a TX report here saying it was sent fine. I tell her I'll send timesheet 2 and a shiny new timesheet 3 which is also ready.

Yesterday, I get a text saying I'll be paid less than expected, and not nearly enough. It seems timesheet 1 has not been processed, but 2 & 3 have. I phone agency cunt who plays dumb and asks me if I'm sure I've faxed timesheet 1. I tell her that I can be quite sure it's been received, as I'd had a text from payroll about it three weeks ago and they've still not paid me my fucking money. I am told it might ned faxing again. This make me laugh. I happen to know that my manager has misplaced the original timesheet which she insists on keeping and is off for the next forever, in any case, and I' not due back there myself for the forseeable future. I tell agency the money will be paid to me in full by the end of next week, or the next contact will be with my solicitor.

Agency cunt agrees to 'chase it up' 'see what she can do' and 'keep me posted'. Pay me the money, bitch. Pay it. Now halfway through next day and I'm not feeling very 'kept posted'.

From now on, I refuse to accept that I 'need to' lift a finger to resolve a fuck-up that someone else has made. Whatever I'm asked to do I do, promptly and carefully, to completion. If the company drops the ball thereafter and needs me to help them sort their shit out, I'll do it for a consultancy fee. All this could have been resolved a month ago by someone phoning me up and saying "We've had a timesheet from you but you aren't active on our system, maybe call your agency rep?".

Ah well, new job tomorrow. What could possibly go wrong?

* Yes, iPad, fuck off.

I'd keep a note of any overdraft (etc.) charges I'd incurred, and talk to my solicitor anyway.

I think I can see the mistake; when they said "prevent" fraud they meant "facilitate."

The absolute worst things about some of my old jobs all revolved around payroll. Not getting paid on time, not getting paid enough, being paid without my bonus etc etc. The number of times I got bank charges that ended up causing money problems for months and the impact it had on my credit was shocking. I only ever managed to get one lot of charges back and it is so great now having a good job with a good head office. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Hope it all works out OK GY.

When Mrs Squirt did some general HR work, she was told, very explicitly, that payroll going through on time and correctly was 100% the top priority. You could be late with pretty much anything else, but screwing up people's pay was not on. When people live paycheck-to-paycheck, and plenty of people do, then being a week late could result on people being unable to pay rent or mortgage or bills and all sorts.

Quite. The one overriding responsibility an employer has to you is to pay you for your labours according to the contracted schedule. If they fail at that, they fail at being an employer.

Thanks guys, we only had her six months but she was a little love. :( At least Sophie has some playmates now. She would've been alone otherwise.

Sorry to hear this Dimrill. We lost one of our fish, Terry, on Friday. It doesn't normally upset me too much but this was one we'd have for the last nine years, since we first got an aquarium.
