I love that animated gif thingy. So much that it almost helped me get over the pain of drunkenly misreading the previous two posts into excitedly and joylously thinking that there'd be a sequel. Even thought that'd be both impossible and actually wrong. ?:|

Hang on, don't people think that about most characters in films? Like, apart from The Ghostbusters?

Dunno, at the end of the film I just found myself not caring one iota that they were together at last. Because I thought they were twats. Maybe I'm getting old, but that just seems wrong to me.

I watched the film last night. Cera was pretty good, but on the whole, the film was pretty "meh". Technically proficient, but I think someone should have reigned Wright in, as the film as a whole is a mess. Perhaps the point was that it crosses genres, fair enough: but it is trying to be too clever for its own good and fails. Sure, fill it with references to manga, videogames, etc - I approve, but don't shovel it on just for the sake of it.

You could edit it down to a decent C4 Comedy Lab one hour comedy programme. 4/10

Yes, I rated the tired Scream 4 higher than this. Flame away fanbois. ;)

Err, belatedly saw this film a few hours ago. Liked it, enjoyed it, but wouldn't want to see it again in a hurry. It reaches a tipping point about halfway when it becomes just relentless fight sequences, bit too shallow for my tastes, which is a shame, as the film seemed to promise a bit more at the beginning.

It took me two goes to watch this film, and it's really quite unusual for me to stop watching a film halfway through. It didn't really grab me that much at first, possibly I'd even say I wasn't enjoying it at all so I stopped watching it. I watched the second half a couple of days (way have been a week or two). Maybe I was in a bad mood or something when I watched the first half, as I thought it was a bit shit. After being persuaded to give it another go I watched from the point i'd got to previously, and felt it was OK. I just didn't really care for the characters or their world.

The games references and stuff were neat for a bit, but sometimes seemed piled on a bit heavy handedly.

Finally saw this tonight. (Mrs went to the cinemas to see it without me and I haven't bothered to watch it myself - she loved it by the way.)

Reading through this thread I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one who was utterly disappointed - everyone I know said it was the best thing ever.

McCauley Culkin's brother was great, and Ramona Flowers is obviously the hottest girl ever ever, but other than that... Meh. It had some decent nods to videogame culture, but it also had some garish headbutts to videogame culture.

Not sure if it's entirely fair to compare the two, but I think Kick Ass is ten times the film this is, and I'm glad I saw that at the cinema instead. (If I recall they were both out around the same time. I'm not sure...)

Anyway, boring!

I didn't loathe Scott Pilgrim but I know that I'd never watch it again even if it came on telly and there was nothing else on. And I'll re-watch pretty much any old shite under those circumstances.

I cannot comprehend how people cannot find Scott Pilgrim giddy, joyous fun. Fools. All.

Kick Ass was enjoyable, but rather predictable. Also completely wrong idea for:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Kick Ass guy to gun down all those dudes with minigun jetpack thing. Turned him from intriguing no-hoper into usual superhero blah and added a slightly false, queasy note.

And it all got a bit too silly and tried to have its cake and eat it, too. Not a patch on the carnival of ideas that Pilgrim was.

"NEGA-NINJA!"

"Oh, I can never get past this guy."

"Don't beat yourself up about it."

Genius. One genius line among many. Also, I keep calling vaguely opposite things 'Nega' all the time. Hitler? "NEGA-CHAPLIN!"

Favourite delivery:

"It's called a grind, bro."

Favourite shot:

The bit where the mirrorball shatters and for two seconds you see Roxy and Ramona reflected in broken shards in VERSUS FIGHT! stylee.

Also, there's an awesome subtle cheeky homage to Metropolis in there, by use of Cera's odd shaped head. I'm sure of it.

Other favourite line:

"Can't you do it? For the band? For the band? FOR THE BAND?"

I hated it so much that it's actually soured for me all the other stuff Wright's done. Including Spaced. Thus I hate it even more.

Mrs Metal and I couldn't bear to watch anything that seems that pleased with itself about its own cleverness. It's not unlike playing a Valve game.

Scott Pilgrim was brilliant at the cinema. When I watched it again at home it seemed slightly less good. But I recall loving many things about it. And the music was pretty good.

As a long-time 2000 AD reader who's read precisely one thing Millar's done since (the extremely average Red Son), I found it highly amusing that Kick Ass retained all of his awful writing quirks and devices from 20 years ago. That said, I still enjoyed it. As for Scott Pilgrim, I've no burning desire to rewatch it, but I very much enjoyed it at the flicks.

Kick Ass is like being stuck in a lift for ninety minutes with a fourteen-year-old XBox Live sociopath bellowing in your ear "LOOK AT ME! CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT I'M DOING? ISN'T IT JUST SO WRONG???? AREN'T YOU OFFENDED YET? LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT MEE! LOOK AT MEEEEEEE!!!!"

Scott Pilgrim is fantastic.

That is all.

I've watched this twice, once on my own on sky+, and then again with the kids as I thought they'd enjoy it.

They did, as did I both times!
