I'm setting up a small Wordpress or similar site to help a struggling artist friend sell some of his wares. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to host it? Cheap and decent being the two main criteria.

The stupidly-named UKHost4U.

Ta Grim... that looks perfect. I've not really had to look for hosting for ages and most of the ones I looked at last night gradually added loads of extras as you stepped through the order process until it no longer seemed very bargainous or else had lots of people whinging about them for dubious billing practices.

Might use them myself, ta Grim...

Looking at their packages the Advanced one at £5.99 for 4 domains looks great value, might be needing to get hosting for someone I know as well as myself.

I use them. There's a free domain name with any package, and there's a more basic version than is displayed on their main page which still offers unlimited bandwidth and loads of space.

Crumbs, yeah - budget package to 20 quid for a year. !GB of space, which will probably still be plenty for your average wordpressy thing.

They're certainly very good on price. The support isn't the best I've encountered though. There were a few times where I'd log an issue, they'd reply fairly quickly with the email equivalent of a shrugging of shoulders and the problem would eventually sort itself out. I moved to tsohost.co.uk last year as the performance of the site itself seemed to be getting worse too. At first I put it down to the Joomla overheads, but since moving across, it's a lot better.

Compare that to my experience of the support where they gave me a free domain name even though I wasn't entitled to the offer at that time and replied within the hour. Yes.

I've always had fairly good support from them too (and, frankly, I didn't expect much for £0.08 a month, or whatever I was paying), but, obviously, YMM (and does) V.

Compare that with the people who host this server, who will reluctantly get up and push the reset button if you whinge at them enough, and that's pretty much it.
