I love it when Djonny has a strop. My Kindle cable also charges my phone. HTH.

Is there any visible damage to the case? If not I'd just phone amazon and say that the screen has gone wrong.

Do you mean the PSU itself (in which case myp is correct) or do you mean "is there an adaptor to let you charge an iPad from a micro USB cable" in which case, yes, it's the same adaptor.

Although as I found out in the car at the weekend, charging from USB in the car doesn't charge it. It still goes down, albeit very slowly (10% drop in about two hours).

Astoundingly, amazon are sending me a replacement kindle, despite me admitting that I'd dropped it.

Amazing.

It depends entirely how much money you spend with them, though. Customers are tiered. DavPaz is likely in a higher tier.

(True fact - an Amazon employee once told me.)

NB: this system obviously doesn't affect your statutory rights, or any obligations they owe you under various warranties, etc. It just means they're willing to go above and beyond the call of duty - usually in the form of no questions asked replacements - if you're a favoured customer.

For example, I was once 'reimbursed' £100 - cash - after buying my first Xbox and a shitload of games (order value >£400) which was delivered to someone else. I got everything eventually by meeting the guy who got my delivery (I'd been sent his poxy camera) and making a trade. They refunded me £100 as a goodwill gesture. Pretty damn generous - but then I have spent thousands of pounds there over the years.

Plus, we all know it's their eventual goal to literally give Kindles away - the money is in them books.

Huh, that's pretty interesting. I wonder if there's a way to find out which tier you're on?

Ring them up and say you dropped your Kindle, I guess ;)

My bus is late :(

I'd be surprised if I was considered a valued top-tier customer, to be honest. I *have* been with them since 1998 though :)

I'm not sure how sophisticated the system is. It might be 'dickhead' and 'alright' for all we know... So it might not be particularly onerous to get into their good books. Or it might be more coomplicated.

I think your second point has a good deal to do with it, they want everyone to have a kindle, so are more inclined to keep their kindle customers super happy.

Wait, what? How does this work? My screen froze with a load of text missing it a few months ago. I reset it, let the battery die, reset it again... And it's still broke'd. I have been too lazy to do anything about it because it involves customer services and speaking to people so I have left it... Your tale makes me reconsider this position.

My Kindle broke and they replaced it for free.

But then DHL failed to pick up the broken Kindle, so I got charged for it.

I should really sort that out. At the time my baby was being born so it fell down the list of priorities somewhat.

I have spent hundreds of pounds with them lately though, so I shall give it a whirl tomorrow.

You know those mysterious locked grey cabinets you see in housing estates?
Kindle cabinets. To aid speedy delivery.

You are never more than 10ft from a brand new kindle.

My kindle touch turned up today :DD The girl pretty much stole my kindle keyboard so she's having that one. I was rather pleased that I was able to copy my documents folder right over and not have the drm cock up, was also able to sync collections so no organising was required. So far I like it, the screen is a lot easier to read and the menus and search function are a hell of a lot quicker. The touch screen is rather sensitive so you have be be aware of that. My only real bitch is that the official leather case is shit and has a material value of £5.99 (shiny leather), they think they can charge £30/£50 because of the grippy back but given that you have no way of keeping the thing shut it's really rather pointless. I bought a cheap £5.99 cover from ebay with a magnet to keep it closed and am waiting on a nice hand made one from etsy to arrive when it arrives.
