I agree.

Good customer service: UPS lost my iPad on Monday. After some wrangling, they admitted they had lost it, and told me to call Apple. Apple opened an investigation immediately, and if it hasn't turned up by Thursday, will immediately ship a replacement (sorry GY), which should come by Monday next week. Once I have it in good order, they are going to refund me £40 as a goodwill gesture.

The last bit, in particular, is the best service I've ever had for a shipment that went missing.

Quote:
Well, how many are ordered compared to the amount they've made? Just start making them however much earlier you need to, to meet demand. Or, don't launch until you aren't going to piss people off with not having any.
How can Apple tell know how many it needs to meet demand? And how far back should it start manufacturing to achieve this collossal goal? Six months? What if, in six months, technology has moved on, and a competing product has launched? It has to be a balancing act. I can't think of any other tech vendor with this sort of day-one demand to manage, so I can't think of anyone who does better at it.

Most vendors, of course, charge more in the first 10% or something of a product's life and use that early adopter tax to manage demand. But if Apple did this I think the Internet would melt from the concentrated hatred.

Quote:
Withholding supply is one way of generating interest and stuff like that.
It also, inherently, involves leaving money on the table. I'm pretty sure smart companies don't do this, for that reason.

The four stores quite likely to have one in are at the four compass points on the outskirts relative to me in the centre of Hull. I have petrol sufficient to travel to one and so far have failed to get a proper response out of a single one of them about stocks, due to centralised premium rate numbers.

"We're sorry but die to high demand we cannot provide accurate stock information"

No, well that's why I don't want to call you, I want to call the fucking shop I need to potentially visit because the shop will know whether they have any stock.

You remind me of Perkies when he used to insist on traipsing around the entirety of Cardiff looking for the cheapest copy of Frontlines or whatever.

You remind me of a glistening Perkies, as he forcefully encircled all of Cardiff, hoping to score with the cheapest copy of Frontlines or anything he could get his moist hands on.

Indeed, the Apple way is just to charge that extra 10% forever so that no one notices. ;)

I'm already building a list in my head of other things I could spend the money on, including festival tickets & accommodation, musical instruments, a shed, a car, a much cheaper iPad for my Mum, sticking it in an ISA, a dog, a trip to the aurora borealis and (some way out in front) a huge bale of weed.

I bet all the members of Bon Jovi have iPad 3's. But they prefer pillow fighting in their 'jammies.

These new ones do get bloody hot though, around 79.107505070993915 times hotter than body temperature from what I gather.

Apple's next product: iGloves. These are merely oven gloves. They cost £200 and come in black and white.

To make that analogy fair you'd have to say that they work with most of the best foods... foods which most other oven gloves won't work with.

Meanwhile iGlove users are terribly excited about the new basic functionality that's coming to iGloves, despite it being available in other oven gloves since they came out, and despite iGlove owners saying that the things weren't important anyway.

all the while, rival glove owners are waiting for the release of chocolate muffin 2.0, to upgrade their gloves, assuming they bought glove version 1, and not glove version one, which was out at the same time, but in a different size, and glove version wun, which came out 1 month later and is incompatible with chocolate muffin 2.0, but does work with banana biscuit, but only if you have cut off the label yourself, and added the fingers update from hot drink 4.0.

As an Android owner and fan, I think it's fair comment.

I'm now facing further delays awaiting medical clearance. Having been told that in this job I'll not solely handle cases myself because I'm not in 5 days a week, HR are waiting for my medical clearance, which was due in yesterday but the girl who is processing my recruitment only works 3 days a week, so nothing's happening yesterday/today. I know. I said Fine, I'll call Monday and make sure it's all sorted. "Sorry, I'm not in till Tuesday, having a long weekend".

There's a shop I can walk to that I know for a fact has them in stock as well.

It's doing my fucking head in.

Ha. Reminds me of the Garda sent out from HQ on urgent business to meet the ferry from Holyhead down at the port to pick an "urgent consignment" of five "not yet released in Ireland" iPads.
