Google Chrome and RSS feeds

Hi Geeks

Google Chrome problem/question here.

I have just had a message from someone who tried to subscribe to my blog via RSS feed and had problems subscribing to my feed. i asked what browser they were using and they said Chrome. Hold on, this is the exact wording:

And when I right click it, and click open link in new tab, the new tab opens but is blank with no web address in the browser address window. But I am in Chrome. (*I clicked the link to the RSS feed in Safari and pasted it in a message to her)

I opened the site in Chrome and clicked the link myself and got this pop up:

I also tried the link http://www.eskimimimakes.com/feeds/post ... lt?alt=rss (replacing the feed:// with http:// but that again does not work.

Can someone help me to understand what is going on here and why it will not open the page? It says it won't open such pages, but I assume she has used RSS feeds before in this browser?

The result you're seeing is nothing to do with the behaviour she's getting, you're only seeing that because your machine has Safari registered as the handler for RSS feeds. I don't know why she's having her problem mind you, but I thought it might help to know it's nothing to do with what you're seeing at least.

Also, I can replicate the behaviour she's getting on my work machine right now which is running Windows XP and Chrome version 17.0.963.79 m if that helps at all.

I've done some very brief Googling and it seems there are issues with Chrome's handling of the feed: protocol. Although most people are talking about there being no inbuilt RSS reading functionality so instead of getting a nicely formatted page as you would in other browsers you'd get some horrible bare XML and that's not what's happening here. I'm sure Grim et al will be along shortly with some real information rather then my ramblings.
