Hello, Beex Hivemind.

I am considering getting a photo printer so I can print out pics of the child, for sticking on walls, in books, and sending to parental units.

Do we have any recommendations? Budget up to 150-200ish.

Ta!

... or online printer. Best quality and works out cheaper.

Printing photos at home is a minefield of disappointment and failure. Do what they said and use photo print services.

Or take your memory card to Boots and print them INSTANTLY at the KODAK BOOTH.

obey, obey, obey

Hmmmm.

The one my friends have is excellent. And convenient.

Anyone at all think this is a good idea?

Do you already have a printer for "general" printing purposes?

If so, I agree with the hive mind so far - get it done by a professional.

Fraid not. My parents have got an Epson Picturemate and it's too much hassle; it takes too long to print each one and the quality isn't always consistent. Obviously there are going to be better models about, but it's unlikely that you'd ever be in a rush for these photos, so I'd go the online route.

Getting pictures printed is actually pretty cheap (and plenty of places tie up to things like your Flickr account so it's not that much hassle) - framing them is what costs the money.

I can definitely see the appeal that the immediacy of it has. I think it's just generally not worth the hassle, though.

I buy my frames from Ikea / ASDAS and order my prints to fit, cheap enough that way. Photo books are a great idea too, done a couple of those now as gifts to my Mrs.

A decent (or for that matter a less than averagely good) print still knocks most of the other things that people look at photos on into a cocked hat for quality.

Thread change!

Recommend me an online photo printing service!

I just liked the idea of taking a photo on my phone and then emailing it to my printer.

I have no other printer for normal printing things.

I'm sure there's an "app for that", but I've not ever tried one. I'm fairly sure Kodak do one.

The camera on my phone is more than good enough for a postcard sized print of my baby doing stupid things!

I've used http://www.photobox.co.uk for prints, and Apple for books (through iPhoto).

They mostly do introductory offers of free prints so just try a few out.

I was thinking big pictures, for some reason.

Failing that, you can always download photos of other folk's babies doing stupid things. They all look much the same.

A picture of Joans working on a ceiling fan would be a good substitute too.

I don't suppose you're with Virgin Media are you? They do photo printing as part of your package (or they did anyway...) and I think it's free with you only paying the P+P.

Snapfish!

That's the name of the people who do it for you. I had some pictures printed a year or so ago and the quality was pretty much spot on.

Fast turnaround too if I remember.
