Don't worry, I'm not planning on mugging you.

It suddenly dawned on me the other day, just how screwed I would be if someone stole my bag. There's a lot of money invested in the stuff I carry but I guess that's becoming the norm these days.

I regularly have on me my phone, 3DS, GP2x Wiz, camera and sometimes an iPod.

This little lot totals around £600 and then there's my wedding ring which is worth a fair bit. I wouldn't carry that much in bank notes around with me, yet I don't think twice about loading up with gadgets.

How much do you carry around?

My phone is the only thing with any real value I carry around much. But that would be something daft like £800 to replace.

Edit: £699

If I cost up what it would be to replace stuff rather than what I paid for it, you're looking at phone, wallet (and accompanying driving license, money etc), watch, house and car keys, so around £800...?

Scary.

I never carry expensive stuff around. Mind you, I don't actually own much in the way of expensive gear. During the week I've got in my coat -

Android tablet - £99
Orange San Francisco phone - retails at £99 but I paid £28 for mine
Work blackberry - The company got it free and is just a basic model anyway.

Geekiness on the cheap.

iPhone 4S £
Wallet £zero money inside but I do still have my grubby National Insurance card. And bank cards of course.
Packet of Marlboro £7.60
Lighter £1
Half a dog tripe chew £0.20p

So just the phone has any worth and even that stinks of tripe. In fact my whole right pocket reeks of the stuff.

It depends where I'm going, during the week a couple of phones, a hefty desktop replacement laptop, an iPad, some keys and a wallet. Probably two and a half grand to buy it all again. The rest of the time though usually some keys and some money, not even that if I'm with MrsG, she has a bag so I can carry nothing.

I have about 134,000 gold on me and my armour and weapons are probably worth another 50,000 on top of that. My carry weight capacity is about 620.

I thought this going to the gym the other day, I didn't have a pound for the locker so left my stuff on a bench... Coat, handbag, phone, purse and wedding ring, all-in are about a grand.

My car keys also have a tag with the reg. number on them so add another few grand for that :D :belm:

Phone (HTC Desire, worth about £50 now I reckon)
Work Phone (Nokia fleet phone worth £fuckall)
Kindle Keyboard (~£100)
Wedding Ring (No huge £ value, but wouldn't want to lose it)
Wallet (£notmuch)

I reckon I'm alright.

Gosh, if we are talking a work day, then quite a bit!

On me:
Clothes £cheap
Glasses £250 maybe?
Keys £no idea, but the car keys would probably cost a bit to replace
Wallet £100 in cash at the moment
iPhone £600

In the rucksack:
Macbook air £1500+
Kindle £100
iPad 1 £300
laptop accessories £100-ish

I think that is it.

Cellphone
2nd Generation iPod Touch
Car Key x2
House keys
Wallet (contains no more than a fiver)

So less than £500 including the value of the car.

Shagged, dust-logged, tea-stained old Dell laptop with "B" key missing - £worthless (but a right ballache if someone nicked it nonetheless)
iPhone 4S, 32GB (probably worth a few quid?)
Keys to £55k Porsche and £1M house :D
Glasses 80p
Clothes <1p :D
Credit cards, debit card, approx £100 cash usually in wallet
£1k watch
Thick gold neck chain, gold wedding ring

A bit of a mixed bag, then...

This is getting a little silly now. First you want to know about our gas and electric. Now it's what we have on us and how much it's worth. What next? Alarm codes? Bank account numbers?

Going by replacement value (rather than what stuff is actually worth second hand, which won't be that much) then I've got:
Phone: £100ish?
Kindle Fire: £150 + (you can't buy it here yet, so it'd have to be shipped in)
Kindle: £100
Wedding Ring: £200ish, plus a blessing (but they'll be prying it from a dead hand)
Headphones x3: £20x3
Zippo: £15
Rucksack: £60
Wallet: £15
Cash: £100 - £200 (ask me one day, and I'll explain why)

If we're going to count clothes:
Trainers: Between £30 and £200
Sunglasses: £200
Jeans: £15 - £50
T-shirt: £10 - £20

So that's a maximum of: fucking hell: £1,370 :S

I've got one set for me, one set for people who sit next to me on the train if they want to watch the film / show I'm watching at the time, and a set in case either of the other two break (which I bought for £50 from a girl when I was on a train, drunk, and my headphones were broken and I really wanted to watch Buffy ).

Phone £300
Blackberry £300 (though I wouldn't pay to replace it)
Kindle £100
Wedding ring £500
Clothes probably £100 all-in.
Wallet and car keys - no real monetary cost to replace, just hassle.

So stuff I'd have to pay for? £1000.

On a lease car? Think again - £160 for the Mundano (although that is a proximity one).

Wallet: Very rarely any cash, just my bank/credit cards and driving license, so nothing of particular monetary value there.
Phone: £700 or whatever the 64GB 4S is these days.
Keys: Just the keys to my house, which is usually a fair distance away from me so no real danger of someone using the keys for nefarious purposes. If I've got all my car keys with me, that adds quite a bit of bulk but unless I'm at home I've only ever got one car near me so that's not a massive concern either.
Glasses: £32 pair from the Interweb. No great loss, and not required anyway except at night.
Clothes: Generally hand me downs from my brother ;) Only my coat is of real value, and even then it's only £70-£80.

That's it. I travel light.

If you steal my bag?

Phone: iPhone 4 - whatever that costs
Headphones: either those Klipsch ones (RRP 120) or the audio technica ones (RRP 150 and ten times as good)
Bag: quite a nice one where you can't see the brand. 70 I think
Dirty gym stuff: I'll eBay it one day and find out.
Wallet: lol
Me punching you in your face: bunch of fives

Don't carry your National Insurance card on you. It's a very valuable key item of personal information and its loss would put you at significant risk of identity fraud.

The fact they put it on a credit card format is irritating to me as a fraud preventional professional, especially as you receive it at the threshold of adulthood at a time when you're quite keen to pad out your wallet with whatever cards you can get as it makes you feel grown up.

I memorised my NI number the day I got the card (it's a really easy one, which helped) and have never needed to look at it since but I realised a while ago that I've been carrying it and transferring it between replacement wallets for years. Madness.

Thankfully HMRC has stopped issuing cards in preference for sending letters instead.

I have some daft expensive studio headphones of even more cost, but I wouldn't dream of taking them out of the house.

Headphones don't tend to last long when used for travelling, I find.

Thats where wireless and foldable make all the difference for me. Anything with leads doesn't last, but with wireless no problem.

I never buy expensive headphones because I'm guaranteed to lose them within a week.

Talking of headphones, does anyone know of any good, cheap, lightweight and portable ones that are not the 'in ear' type, for use with iPhone on train? I absolutely do not get on with the stupid ones that Apple provide; they just turn/drop out of my ears and are infuriating.

Not after anything amazing, just half decent likes and easily portable/small-ish. It'd be good if they were durable and OK for jogging with etc. too. :)

I have Sennheiser PMX80s for running with but I'm not sure they'd be much cop for using on a train:

These are fucking incredible, and less than £20: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-HAFX1X-Xtre ... 211&sr=8-1

Noticeably better than the Sennheiser's I had been using. As you can tell by the shape, they stick in your ears just fine.

[edit]Oops, I misread "not in-ear" as "in-ear". So, er, ignore.

Wired and portable, but not in ear or buds?
