Really sorry for your loss, Dimmers. It's always horrible when a loved relative passes on, but you must make an effort to remember all those great times you undoubtedly had with him and share those stories with your relatives. Hell, share them in here, I like hearing these stories and I found talking about my fond memories a great help when I lost both of my maternal grandparents suddenly.

Sounds perverse, but it's a relief he's gone. I didn't want to see him suffer any more. :(

Not perverse at all. My nan was the same way. She was suffering and it was dragged out a long time. Relief is a totally natural reaction.

I know, thanks guys. It's just dragging up a lot of horrible memories of watching my Dad die, so I'm a shade shit at the mo.

So I accidentally happened to see some ludicrously flirty texts my gf sent to someone fucking ages ago, well before I ever met her, but my wrong-o-jealous-head got all upset about it anyway and I have been kind of a dick about it. We're still officially together and all that, but she's suddenly gone a bit quiet on me and now I'm concerned that I may have ruined another relationship - only this time with someone properly awesome.

It would be nice if I could learn to be less of a emo cock end, but it seems like it's a pretty ingrained part of my personality.

I'm still in varying amounts of something for tweeting "Sei mai stato detto che sei ebautiful in Italia impeccabile?" to a female friend.

I’m gonna be pretty blunt here: you’re an idiot. Speak to her, tell her you’re an idiot, and sort it out. And try not to be an idiot again, you idiot.

I haven't deleted a text since I had a phone with so little storage that texts actually needed to be deleted.

I don't delete texts either (other than stuff to and from the last ex - that all got wiped). I know for a fact there's nothing on mine quite as eye-opening as what the missus has on her phone, but I'm sure there must be stuff there one could misinterpret or get upset over. She actually did apologise for not deleting it all, which made me feel an even bigger arsehole.

I have apologised for my idiocy - in fact I've probably tried to apologise a little too much, so now she's feeling a bit muddled about how up & down I'm being (bearing in mind I saw these messages days ago, tried to ignore it and only yesterday went to shit over it). She's basically told me to stop being so emo and weird, be my normal self again, and then everything will be cool.

I feel a little silly posting this shit again actually. I definitely have some weird little emotional ticks sometimes - stuff like this happens and I know I'm loosing it, I know I've stopped being my normal self and am behaving weird, I know I'm in the wrong but I never feel I can do anything about it. After a while, it blows over and I'm myself again. It's a fucking pain in the arse and no mistake. I can be so up and down sometimes it's like I'm mildly bi-polar, but I've seen the doctor about this before and I just get told I have mild depression. Which is, itself, bollocks.

Anyway, apologies for being all emo again. I really am trying to stop it. As for the gf, things are maybe slightly tense at the moment, but we've got some awesome plans coming up and I feel a lot calmer and more normal now, so hopefully things will just work themselves out.

Zio, you are directly putting me at risk of brain-damage because of the amount of head-desking you cause me to do.

Seriously, don't panic. I can understand that it was upsetting, but you should just tell her that you love her and it's because she seems so precious you don't like to think of her with anyone else though you do realise of course that everyone has a past, and that you were surprised because you delete your ex's messages and just assumed that everyone does. But most importantly you realise you were being needlessly silly and that the only thing that matters is her and you and now.

You have permission to be emo about it when you accidentally see texts like that sent and received earlier the same day.. until then, secure that shit, soldier! ;)

Sorry to hear of your loss, Dimrill. I know where you're coming from with the feeling that it was something of a relief. You have to struggle with your recent memories until you remember him in his better days, as he'd want to be remembered.

Ok,

so imagine the scene, it's a busy monday morning, your hero is workin on several calls at once, and in writing up one of the call notes, he mistakenly pastes the path to the location of a different call.

cue the analyst doing it not checking anything and sending the wrong file to the wrong site!

whoops :(

Dimrill, I thought I'd replied at the time but obviously not, so just wanted to add my sympathies. I would have said exactly what Malc said-

Remember Vic Reeve's Big Night Out?

Remember The Man With The Stick?

Remember when Vic had his kids hostage, and he'd let out that plaintive little moan, because he just wanted his kids back?

That's the noise my soul makes every time one of you cunts announces that your new iPad has been dispatched in that thread. It's killing me.

I HAVE THE MONEY SAT HERE AND AM 99% CERTAIN I CAN SPEND IT AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE BUT IF I DO AND IT'S NOT THEN I'M COMPLETELY FUCKED.

The day that Mrs Caveman entrusts me to shop for a tea towel - let alone new kitchen cupboards, worktops and flooring (not that I'd be buying any of these things, natch, since I don't believe any of them has an ignition key), will be a cold, cold, cold day in Hell. :D

Another day without anything from the prospective new employer.

Backstory: I interviewed and last Tuesday was offered the job, but they said "It's not a formal offer because we need to do the usual checks for references etc and we don't usually employ externally so we need to communicate with HR and you know what that's like, so wait and we'll call you again once that lot's sorted.

Wednesday, the iPad gets announced.

Given the size and public sector nature of this organisation I know they're going to move at a snail's pace but I've been waiting since August 2010 for a proper contracted job after moving back here, I've got very little in my current account but enough for a shiny iPad in my present money/tax rebate account which was for other things I now don't need to buy. As soon as I get the contract signed for this job, I can spend it but until then I just have to sit here, no point taking on other work, slowly whittling the current account, and my present occasional employers have said they'll let me know when the reference request has come through and it has not. Regardless of the size of an organisation, I think it doesn't take a week to email out two reference requests.

*sigh*

I know I'm probably leaning towards unreasonability and should expect things to be sorted when they are sorted, but you know, I'm so bloody close to not having to fear for the future for the first time in a couple of years. Moreover, 12 months ago when my Dad was dying the most pained expression on his face was when I had to tell him the job I'd been offered had fallen through at the last minute. Getting this one in particular would have made him very, very happy indeed.

This is what teams 2-1 up at Old Trafford feel like when the board comes out saying how much extra time there is.

/edit on top of everything else I'm dead excited about the job itself, regardless of anything else.
