Couldn't find the original thread, so this one will do.

I am most miffed that sky have bought out a new F1 channel weeks after I cancelled my contract with them :(

Still, at least Virgin get the races.

[edit]Aha!
Quote:
Virgin Media has confirmed that customers who sign up to its Sky Sports package will receive the new Sky Sports F1 channel when it launches later this year.
:D :D

Enjoy it in block-o-vision!

I haven't got any enthusiasm for this yet - I'm more excited about baseball season starting at the moment. I'm sure things will change when the first race weekend rolls around.

I think I'll only really miss the early morning races, I can always go to the pub for the others if I'm that bothered, which I don't think I will be.

I haven't completely lost it with F1, but I'm running high levels of disinterest right now. I'll be happier if there's a driver I like to root for but I don't want another season of one driver dominating again, particularly when I don't really like said driver.

Changing the subject slightly, did any of you see this Montoya crash from the Indy500 this week?
Only Nascar would a) use a jet fuelled helicopter engine attached to the side of a fuel bowser to dry a wet track, and b) allow the bloody race cars to stay on the track at the same time

I've watched F1 on proper telly all my life and now half the live races have gone, seemingly most of the good half. I'll be having a go in some capacity, always root for the UK drivers and a select few forrins, missed less than a season's worth of races since I was ten, but this Sky bullshit has probably killed it for me.

Can't see the pubs having it on either, it's so often opposite the football.

Much like every other year I'm more excited about the 24 Heures du Mans than the F1 :)

I would be astonished if it isn't. It's a premium channel along with the other sports ones, so I'd expect so.

Hope so! We're not allowed a dish or Virgin, so I can only use the Xbox.

I'm annoyed with Virgin that you have to buy the whole sports package to get the F1 channel, I was hoping they would sell it on it's own.
Anyhow at the moment my set up will be to find a stream for the non-bbc races.

Looking forward to the season especially glad to see Kimi back

Where does one go to find such a thing? I've heard of people using these to watch football etc but not being a fan I've no idea about it all.

With only 3 weeks to go, I think they would have announced it by now.

They only announced the channel a few weeks ago!

If they announce it I'll get it, I'd be happy to pay £10 month any more than that & I'll continue streaming the non-bbc races.

Better than £50 a month to talk to you idiots £22 a month, which is what it will cost you on Virgin.

But 10 quid a month for a single sport, where the main event happens for 2 hours once a fortnight is pushing the limits of love, no?

The channel is 24 hours, with news and footage of old races, etc. It's not just 2hrs a fortnight.

Yes but there is no other choice if you want to watch all the race live & anyway there is no £10 option only the £22 sports + the base package on top bringing it to nearly £30 a month.

No way I am paying that so I will stick with the BBC & watch the other races streamed.

Yeah, but you get the footy and the wrestling and cricket and ESPN and all that shizzle too.

Those who just want the F1 and have always had it for the Licence Fee, which we're all still having to pay, can be rightly aggrieved, surely?

I'm aware of that, but I'm pretty sure none of the licence fee was directly spent on F1 coverage during those years.

I'm pretty sure too. Doesn't change the fact that you could watch it by only spending the licence fee :p

It was always bound to happen Bernie wants more money & BBC needed out because they could not afford it thus SKY opened their wallet.

I would have preferred if another free to air channel like ITV, CH4 or even CH5 had taken the feed.
But the BBC screwed us by getting in bed with SKY so they could keep some races.

I believe all the main channels do get some license fee (itv, channel 4,5). Even if
it's just to air stupid political things. Beeb get the largest share though. I haven't checked my sources though so it might have changed.

Only to the same extent you would be if any other show was poached by Sky.

Indeed. I recorded it this AM so that I could skip to the start when I was inevitably woken up. BBC are honking cunts for giving the result of quali without warning on breakfast news.

I was looking for this thread to mention that I'd been invited last week. Haven't bothered yet, though.

In actual F1 news: Come on, Jenson.
