1 rule - no Storm Thorgerson - he deserves his own thread.

Here's to get us started - nothing remarkable but fits the aesthetic of the era, and the Ouroboros Baphomet has been on a thousand worse covers since - htis might be the first time it was used on a record.

Tool's Lateralus is a really good one but it is comprised of multiple layers... here's the Google search for it, most of what you see is included in the CD... http://tinyurl.com/6rtluet

The best Fear Factory album also has the best cover.

Bang on about Neurosis, FF and CC there.

My favourite metal artist is *nepotism* Dave Patchett who does Cathedral's stuff - I have fond memories of sitting in a lounge in Coventry looking at the large framed originals on the wall for ages while imbibing. Cracking detail in the, really rich stuff. I never met Dave himself but according to the sons of some lady he is or was attached to, he's a nice bloke, if rather eccentric. That's Coventry folk, mind you.

While I'm being nepotistic I can't recommend the artwork of our Joolz highly enough...

She's done The Almighty, all of New Model Army's official stuff and New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack are her current victims muses.

In 2004 Joolz' artwork for NMA was toured round galleries in Europe and the Uk. The launch was at Cartwright hall in Braford and because I'd been good they let me take my camera along...

Morbus Chron have an excellent cover for their Sleepers in the Rift album.

Oh, that's one of them definitely. When I was 17 I wanted it tattooed on my stomach, but with the sperms and pentagram in black on my skin. No grey, natch.

Also like this, in terms of recent stuff.

It's great. Their last few have been excellent. Really dark stuff, and not bandwagon jumping on dubstep or anything. That or Radio Scarecrow are the picks.

Dust to Digital have some lovely ones for their old-timey American 1920's spirituals/folk reissues.

Goodbye Babylon - Gorgeous, comes with real Deep South cotton wool!

And another very nice set here featuring various songs of disaster and woe...

There's all sorts of references from the songs hidden within the picture, like one of those "50 films hidden here" pictures.
