Be Excellent To Each Other

Beyonce and Sony are letting regular folk remix a track from her album and as an incentive those that get the most votes will be considered for the grand prize of $4000 and the track goes on the next single. We decided to download the parts and have a go.

They put up stems (essentially samples used to build the track)in WAV. format for download. Most are unusable and all of them have about a square mile of dead space in them (seriously, we chopped one down to 5MB from about 56MB). The main track seems to use a horrible martial beat, and Beyonce seems to sing all her lines through a megaphone. It took about 3 days to cobble together something in Psycle master it and upload the result to Soundcloud.

Sadly it seems voting rather than skill will get you to the top 50 where they will consider your track, so I've got no chance of winning.

Postscript, I'm currently listening to the original track, and have just realised that I've remixed a song without listening to the original track.

That's pretty good - what software did you use?

I'd vote for you, but, you know, registering...

I really don't care for the 'metal saw' sample which plays over almost the entire track. Sorry.

The Aphex Twin used to do that a lot too

And submit tracks that he made completely new as remixes.

If I decide to rework it that will definitely be scaled back, I'll try and get rid of the muddiness in the mid section as well.

Competition is now closed, we didn't make it to the final 50, but it was sure fun taking part. I really hope this, won, but it'll probably be something boring and conventional.
