Best ending ever, just a shame you have to watch a soap opera to get there...

Oh yeah, perfect ending, I'm just sad there's no more soap opera to watch :D

So what does everyone think the ending meant? Have we discussed this? Should it be a separate thread for spoiler reasons?

I'm pretty sure that it meant he was killed.

Happy to make a new thread if anyone deems it necessary.

For now..

I loved the buildup in the last episode. Especially the very end in the vintage diner, with the camera scrutinising everyone coming through the door, paranoid. Meadow taking obvious ages to park, arriving late, to... what? Edge of the seat stuff :)

But for a show with so much hidden meaning embedded in it, I'm not convinced the ending actually "meant" anything. Either it all carried on as before, or the whole family is wiped out by a gunman of Phil's. I think it's fair enough that it's not told.

What did the cat mean though?

Yup, definitely killed. There was an earlier episode where they discussed what they thought happened when you died and someone (Paulie?) said that he thought it just went black and stopped. Plus the diner was full of the people Tony had wronged over the years, and Meadow had 2 failed attempts at parking, which is the same as the 2 previous attempts on Tony's life, she succeeded in parking on the third attempt...

Interesting Trooper, I didn't pick up on other people in the diner. Like who? That's a bit twin-peaks-y.

I haven't watched it in years, so can't tell you exactly, but I thought that there was a person type from each of the people who had tried to kill him before? Not the actual people, but a representation of them

I have more to type here -- I'm beyond convinced it means Tony is dead -- but the cat symbolises his guilt over Adrianna's death and is a repeated motif in the last couple of seasons.

Could it not be guilt about Christopher himself?

I also wondered about the meaning of the title and the repeated focus on things like Ford badges, and AJ going on about terrorists and the American Dream.

We saw Adrianna wear a cat suit several times, IIRC.

Holy shit, read that one from the start..

I've come up with my own theory for the Ford thing - when this was filmed, the US carmakers were going seriously downhill - viewers at the time would recognise it as an ill-fated, end of the line firm, destroying itself. "By 2005, corporate bond rating agencies had downgraded the bonds of both Ford and GM to junk status [..] The automaker reported the largest annual loss in company history in 2006 of $12.7 billion".. Symbolic of Tony's mafia family, the mob itself or perhaps even about the decline of the US on various fronts.

It was clearly a setup for Glee to take over.
