The MoD has revealed the list of sites in response to a series of freedom of information requests in the wake of the discovery of dangerous levels of radium contamination at Dalgety Bay in Fife. It was home to a busy second world war air base.

In the past three months, 475 radioactive hotspots have been discovered on the foreshore near a public footpath and a popular sailing club. Several of the finds have been radioactive enough to cause skin burns, or to significantly increase cancer risks if swallowed.

I've been working here for about 10 years and often have my lunch down on the beach. Lolz.

edit: in fact I have some nice bits of glowy* glass I found down there arranged on top of my monitor.

*not really.

Isn't he just awesome?! He feels amazing, too, and whatever he's made from looks so realistic, but he's light and firm and super for cuddles.

Animal fact: manatees sleep on their backs and like a 15+ tog duvet.

Pleb.

In other news, this morning I have been trying to work out my Boxing Day Escape Route from Ireland. Current 'best' route is:

Cab to airport.
Plane to Gatwick (booked).
Train to Victoria.
Bus to Lewisham.
Cab to Kidbrooke.

Planes, trains and automobiles.

Dear Christ it is going to take most of the day just to get home :-(

The alternative is to get a cab home from Gatwick, but that will probably cost a fortune, and I already got massively, massively shafted on air fares...

Well, yes.

X cubed is XXX, which is not the same as 3(X).

No, because when you expand (is that the right word?) it, it's 3Birthday, as opposed to Birthday Birthday Birthday (without the spaces, if you want to be pedantic). Which is sort of the point of the thing that started all this off.
