Over the weekend, as we were all getting acquainted with the new dashboard and some of the many new applications being introduced over the next few months, Microsoft took the time to announce something to both consumers and developers.

Going forward in this console cycle, all future Xbox 360 apps will be required to utilize some form of Kinect functionality. Note that as gamers, we will still be able to have the option of using the good ol' fashioned controller, but the alternative to use just physical gestures and/or voice commands must be present when developers create the application.

The news is sure to please both Kinect early-adopters and more recent buyers who may have still been waiting for something to do with their peripheral besides dance or play mini-games.

What do you think? Is it enough to get you to buy into the Kinect? Let's just hope these future apps don't look as clunky as the new Netflix layout, yes?

Even watching that Black Mirror show last night, the user motion controls sometimes needed to be repeated.

So the control method had better get more accurate than a controller quick.

Well at least because not everyone has Kinect it shouldn't be like the six-axis bollocks on PS3, where almost every game at one point or other actually compels you to start waving the controller around like some sort of twat.

I read the thread title and started picturing tedious PowerPoint presentations being enlivened by the speaker doing kickboxing moves to show the next slide
