I want to torture Belethor to death every time he doles out his drippingly insincere "Do come baaack" line.

Has anyone found a decent place to sell gems? So far, I've only found the guy in Riften and he has very little gold on hand. I can't see me ever grinding Speechcraft up high enough to buy the "invest in shop" perks, either.

Have you joined the thieves guild? If so, their fences in all the cities carry 4k+ gold.

Enthir - purely because I'm constantly buying black soul gems and daedra hearts off him. So I buy £2Ks worth of stuff off him, then sell him £3Ks worth of gems.

Keep doing the side jobs from those two in the ragged flagon. Shill and numbers are the easiest. After 4-5 double goes they'll ask you to do a special job in one of the cities which installs a fence there once completed. Achievement related to doing them all to "restore the guild to its former glory".

Ah! Brilliant. I'll carry on doing those; I've done a few already.

Finding the special items to sell to that stuffy nose cockney is interesting too.

Quick question - does install to HDD cut the load times in any significant way?

Never tried it without installing to disk, but it's pretty much a given that it will.

Enough to counteract the interminable wait for it to install, though?

Anyway, will give it a go, chz.

Interminable? It takes about 5 minutes! I like to pass the time by turning the lights out and thinking of as many sharp edged shapes as I can, as fast as I can. After a minute of that it feels like they're shredding my mind so when the install stops it's a blessed relief.

5 minutes is longer than most things I could do to pass the time.

The only other game on Xbox I installed was Fallout, and that took aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. Then again, the last time I installed a game was Civ4 on the PC, and that was really quick.

I am very much enjoying being 200 years in the past and slightly south. I can see Skyrim on my map. Hope you're all having fun up there in the future.

I am sometimes tempted to replay Oblivion. When we first played it, I played a wee bit in my name then Jen got obsessed with it so I just started having occasional goes on her game and we both worked together to get past the main quest. Once we'd done that, the thought of going back to my game and having to do the same was a bit too much for me and I just never went back to it. The levelling problems in Oblivion were pretty irritating, myp I'd advise playing through the main quest as a priority and not sleeping (in game) until its complete so as you don't level up. If you do, the bad guys you battle level up as well and in the case of the main questline it becomes too much of a grind.
They have hugely improved the levelling in Skyrim, when I've encountered powerful bad guys I've been able to beat them when careful, or when I've returned at a higher level.

Myp - if you've got the PC version of Oblivion can I strongly recommend getting the OOO mod, as that helps kill the autolevelling problems, and generally makes it a better game.

No, I've got it on the 360. I'm actually going to keep an eye out for Morrowind in the Steam sale, though.

Completed the Dark Brotherhood plotline last night. Like the thieves, I think that was an excellent and interesting set of quests.

However,

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I was rather peeved at the whole 'go and buy furniture for our new sanctuary' bit. All told you have to spend about 15000 to buy everything and complete that quest - which leaves you rather out of pocket unless you totally screw the Dark Brotherhood on the reward for the last quest.

Every time I cleared an dungeon, I went back and got all the armour/swords/shit and sold it. I did a load of misc quests for a grand a pop. The side-quest thieves coughs up a grand each rotation too. By the time you reach mid-40s levels every burial urn has at least 1 flawless gem in there, worth anything between 400-1000 each. It all adds up.

I can't remember why,but only a few hours in I have a misc. quest to go and meet some guy in Windholm (I think - near the lumbermill) who's a Dark Brothrhood chap, according to the old hag outside his door. Name begins with A. Does that lead to Brotherhoodeyness? Couldn't quite bring myself to go in and ask.

Just did the tree mission - I didn't even think of whether I could discuss getting the sap with the two people in the cavern, I just went and got it and then attacked the nearest spriggan with a woodcutters axe, and then legged it when that didn't work. Is there any way of completing that one without fighting?

No - might be worth using a weapon that isn't a woodcutter's axe though....

Weird one that. It suggests that you've done a bad thing and intimates doom further down the line, but there's never any followup.

I figured, as they're tree people, maybe it would deal extra damage....

I've not finished off the thieves subquests yet, so I've still got mountains of phat lewt that I can't be arsed to run around selling.

Shimmermist Cave - I slugged my way past those horrid bug things, and got to the chief, and he had a massive automaton with him, and I'm stuck repeatedly getting staved in. I'm only level 8, should I give this up as a bad job for now?

Wander off and tool up specifically to beat him. Having said that I've got ongoing quests left right and centre where I get to what must surely be nearly the end then some fucking wizard twat rocks up and obliterates my face of with 1 hit! Does everybody have to come back to quests at a later date or am I just crap at games?

Still no fix for the quest bugs. I now have 3 in my misc list including return to and also speak to theJarl of riften, who just has stock dialogue for me when I do so. Not at all impressed.

There have been fixes for the Radiant quests. Bethesda are apparently saying on the forums that a "content patch" (as opposed to "game engine patch") will be coming in January.

That's far from satisfactory. How do I tell if a quest is radiant? I still can't shift that Telrav one from my list and he's dead. From time to time asking it to show me where that is on the map will give me a new location but there is never anything there.

Mr Chris-
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
is shimmermist cave the one where you get to the end and there is a baddy plus a big dwarven robot thing? If so, I fired an arrow at it then ran back the way I'd came (in sneak the whole time) and kept doing that 'til it was dead. Everytime I backed off it stopped looking for me so then the next arrow scored 3x damage again.

Yes, that's it! Being a cowardly cowardly coward seems to be the way ahead, then. Question - Does your companion dispel your sneaking?

I wandered off and found a half sunk castle full of water and necromancers - really excellently atmospheric. I could waste a lot of time on this game.

No my companion was with me at the time and was fine :)
I've played 50 hours so far, haven't been to at least two cities and have only finished the mages guild.

Here's a new bug - dismount horsie, horsie shoots backwards at light speed THROUGH A MOUNTAIN and emerges dead on the other side.

Hopefully the update fixes random crashes as well. I've had two now in the past couple of days, both during combat and both of which, thankfully, I'd saved only a few minutes before, so I wasn't too peeved.
Also glad to see the bookshelf thing was a known bug, as I stuck a load of books and notes on a shelf in my house only to be unable to get any of it back again.

I'm shunning horses because the one time I bought one I then fast-travelled and it landed on my head when we arrived.
