It's happening, people. THPSHD! I've been wanting this for ages. Absolutely ripe for XBLA HD goodness. It'll have stages from the first two games. As long as they don't mess with the controls or whatever, yay!

THPS2 remains one of my all time favourite games. As such, I am excited this might be great, and dubious that it might not meet my rose-tinted expectations.

It's sad to think that about 50% of the games I've looked forward to this generation have been HD remakes of games I've had for 10 years or more, instead of new original brilliant things of wonder.

Total first day buy though. Shame it's not going to include anything from THPS3, as I think a lot of people see that as the pinnacle of the series. I guess that'll be added as DLC or kept for a THPS HD 2.

They're milking it. If this is big, they'll do a 3 and 4 bundle for that whole pre-THUG experience. It's like how on PS1 they'd have 4 or 5 Sega classics or whatever, even though they could fit the entire Megadrive library on a disc.

Happy about this. A few months back, I finally managed to track down a copy of THPS2 for the xbox. It being an US exclusive, it's not so common. Imagine my annoyance when I find it's not 360 compatible. Grr.

I'm interested in this. My brother and I played the first one to death (he's never been much of a gamer, beyond PES/FIFA) but after the sequel (I had the Dreamcast version with its flaky sound) we lost interest. Hopefully this might be a return to form and they won't tinker with it too much.

Nope. Although I've long had a THPS2 playlist in my iTunes (so long, I think I downloaded the tracks from Napster); so I suppose I could always stream that to the Xbox.

Skate or gtfo. Coming from a long time hawk fan. Skate just kills it.

I've tried about three times, but just can't get into Skate at all. All the tutorials are fine, but then when it comes to doing anything more than that, I'm just like a spack-handed gibbon. I appreciate the problem is mine, but it just didn't click with me at all.

Keep in mind that I, like many here I think, had little interest in any THPS game after 3 or so. I liked them better when they were simpler arcade games. Skate isn't a simple arcade game, is it?

Never owned a PS1 so never played THPS1. Played THPS2 extensively on the PC and THPS3 on the XBOX1. I tried the Underground stuff but that sort of WOOOOH YEAH DUDE stuff sticks in my throat.

I know, but the Pro Skater games had managed to avoid it. THUG might as well have had Steve-O high-fiving Tony Hawk on the box.

I never really much liked it but I don't really remember THPS as being a simple arcade game, it seemed more like a fighting game with success depending on memorising arbitrary button combos and mashing away at the pad.

I dunno, I just found skate immediately more engaging and easier to relate to, the actions on the pad having some logical correlation with what's going on.

I love both games. Skate gave me the realism I always craved whilst playing the Tony Hawk games. That said, I fucking loved the first three Tony Hawk games for what they were - a totally OTT representation of skateboarding with some fantastic stages to skate in.

I have the same problem with both of them to an extent. At first you can cruise around doing stuff that's fun and looks good but you just know that at some point, in order to progress you'll inevitably end up feeling like you're playing a snowboarding game, flying fifty feet in the air, spinning around five times whilst switching between every hideous stinking grab ever invented.

I can pick up skate and cruise around for hours, I don't really care about progressing the game. Just find a little ledge or whatever and decide to try and do something on it and most things I can think of that I'd want to try you can actually do.

I'm not so sure about that! It took me ages to even grab the high scores on the first stage! Currently finding The Mall's Sick Score to be impossible. I utterly suck. Was going to write up some proper impressions later on. It seems decent, if a little glitchy...

I know one thing for certain, though: Skate is a fantastic game, and it has utterly fucked up my ability to play THPS. Need more practice!

Are people going to be up for playing this for a few weeks at least, do they think? I want to spend on it but would like to be relatively assured of getting my money's worth from online and so on.

I'll be playing this forever, I suspect. It's such a perfect dip-in game.

Not sure what the online support is like. Beyond the leaderboards, which look a bit dangerous for my productivity.

Hang on, I've a question: Has it got the Foundry level from the first Hawks? Man, that level was awesome just because of the outer pipe/wall run right around the entire level.

The level selection is one of my beefs, to be honest! Not sure what you mean by foundry though. THPS3 had an actual foundry level, but if you're talking about the first game, do you mean Warehouse or something?

Oh yeah, it was the third one according to the 'tube. Christ, maybe I never played 1 & 2. Ah well, I only liked that one and, er, the good one on PS2 (which I thought was TH2 but is probably TH16).

Some number of levels from THPS3 are coming for THPS:HD in the form of DLC. 30-45 days from now. 400 points, IIRC.

So tempted by this. I spent months playing THPS3 with Other Dave...

Sweet Jesus this is as good as I hoped.

Took me a while to remember what each button does and I still flap at the triggers like I always did but the simple beauty of finding a line then perfecting it is worth the copious amount of bails it takes to get there.

Ah for fuck's sake. As soon as I saw Trousers come online I knew the fun and games were over!

I've done all the goals now for every level bar the last two. Not sure what the "Projectives" are though, I guess they unlock when you've done everything?

I showed my wife the tables when trousers logged on, she's been laughing as the heads roll.

Also, wall grinding seems so hit and miss I've had to turn it off. One good thing about being ten years older is being able to remember not to chuck the controller at the wall every five minutes.

It's a frustrating beast, no doubt! I've done everything barring Marseille now!
