Probably - very much like Cat Bin Lady. There's probably Racist Tram Ladies all over the place, but this one gets much more police attention because it was filmed and went viral.

I'm not sure how you could ask for a clearer example of the law being seen to be upheld. Or are we saying that if the police only witness crimes on video that they should just ignore them because the person committing the offence couldn't see any police there at the time?

I'm not. I'm saying that 9 times out of 10 if this was reported it would be ignored due to limited police resources. I'm certainly not saying it's a bad thing that they've gone after her.

No, as it's an offence which requires you to be aiming said harassment at a person. If you uploaded a video of you saying "go back to where you fucking came from etc" onto a black person's Facebook page, that would probably be illegal.

She's going to have a great Christmas and New Year. Remanded into custody until 3rd January to protect her safety and hasn't entered a plea.

I think they will struggle to charge her with anything more than a breach of the peace, if that. Locking someone up for their own 'protection' isn't justifiable. Rather, she should be released and if a threat to her life is deemed she should have police protection. Profanity machine she may be, it's really fucking shit to have her kid seperated from her over xmas and new year; she hasn't been convicted of anything yet.

As abhorrent as this disgrace of a woman is, I've seen people do far worse (physical attacks by groups against an individual and in solo attacks) and be released with formal cautions. Only a couple of months ago a friend of mine was attacked without provocation in a library, I got hit in the face, and with statements from myself, my friend, library staff and CCTV, released a few hours later with a formal caution.

I think far too much is allowed to let slide by with no punishment.

I'm still not sure I like the idea that people can be locked up because of the words they say.

Nor I - but the fact she was aiming them at specific people was what makes it constitute harrassment, and that's what she got locked up for.
