So - I want to put iTunes on my big computer (which works) instead of on the laptop (which doesn't).
Can I do this without losing all the stuff that's stored on the iPad/iPhone? I don't care about moving the iTunes library, but I will if I have to.

Oh, both of these are PCs, by the way.

Hmm, the Internet suggests I just have to copy the 'iTunes' folder from one PC to the other, and de-auth the original. I thought it was more faff than that?

Last summer I moved my iPhone and iTunes to my new Mac, and it all stayed. Had to import the library XML and ting, but if you're not bothered about the library (I'm admittedly OCD about play counts and playlists), then yeah very easy.

Another iTunes question! Is there a way to choose some music and say 'sync these songs next time I plug shit in'?
It's a bit slow on a PC, isn't it?

You just tick the songs you want to sync I think, so make a playlist ie grim...s ipod and move the songs you want there and tell it to only sync the playlists

iTunes for Windows is proof Apple really do believe that cross-platform UI toolkits suck. They didn't just tell Adobe that for laughs.

Hurrah, more iTunes rage!
So, sadly I've got a new PC (technically), and I can't get at the old one. Anyhow, I've got iTunes, authorised it, plugged in the iPhone, transferred the purchases, and restored. Now I'd like to do something like, ooh, I don't know, put some of the stuff that's on the computer onto the phone, but I can't. I can't drag it, ticking it and hitting sync makes no difference, and it ignores me no matter how many times I tell it to Just Work™.
It took all the stuff off the iPhone OK - I can see all of the apps the iPhone used to have in iTunes, I just can't put them back on the phone.
I want Buffy on the train. Make it happen, Apple apologists.

Hmm. I have ticked "Manually manage music and videos" and it's moaned at me that it's going to delete everything because it's synced with another computer. That seems encouraging, although maybe not on the app front.

I think you have to change the PC your iPhone is married to to the new one.

Yes, I think clicking "Manually manage music and videos" made that happen.

Man, it's far slower at syncing stuff on XP than it was on Win7.
