Only if the game involves punching the blokes from the advert, in real life.

Take 4 Kinects, add in a projector, and some other crap, and you have a basic holodec!

Is this something do with them releasing the development kit; or are they just trying to jazz people up about it in the run-up to Christmas? If it's the latter then it's a bit odd showing all these other currently non-existent uses of the technology. Either way, I'm not sure I'd want someone disarming a bomb (or whatever that guy was doing with the remotely controlled robot arm) with the thing. What if you needed to scratch your nose part way through...

I'd like to control a robot using Kinect to shove a Wiimote up Satoru Iwata's arsehole.

I was in the MS campus a few weeks ago and they were showing where the Kinect Tech could lead too..

Made me smile when he said the auto door openers was Kinect V0.1

There are quite a few comments in the YT thread about that. Followed by a surprising number of comments from people that did do things like that with it.

Either way - "things it didn't do" was the point of the advert - did you not have the sound on?

Nah, I'm at work and don't usually dig out the headphone for Youtube stuff when I'm at my desk, apologies if not doing so made my question utterly redundant. That's why I wondered though if they were teasing the developer kit because if they weren't referencing that then showing people loads of stuff the technology could do but wasn't officially supported would've seemed like an odd thing to do. Hats off to them for actually allowing people to harness the technology rather than just going, "No! It's for playing games. Either play games with it or fuck off!"

It's about people using it in ways they didn't expect, and how when people ask MS "what are you going to do with Kinect next?" they reply by asking the same thing.

Nope! Wishy-washy shite! The day a game comes out that actually looks good, I'll get one. I doubt that day will come.

edit: I'm not saying stuff like head tracking in Forza 4 doesn't look cool, but that's just a nice gimmicky addition to a solid game that uses normal control methods. But what I am saying is: there isn't a single Kinect controlled game that looks even half decent. The only one I was vaguely interested in was that dance one, but I don't even like dancing, I just thought it looked well executed. i.e., it works as it should and isn't completely shite.

This about sums up my current position. I'm impressed with the technology (as an idea anyway) and it's good to see companies like MS try to push things forward but there isn't a single game for the thing that's any good and, perhaps cynically, I don't expect that to change enough to make me want to shell out for the hardware. Even if one company ever cracks the whole motion control thing and manages to make a non-gimmicky bullshit game that still wouldn't be enough, there'd need to be a few good games that take advantage of the hardware otherwise it's just not worth the cash to me personally.

Sara Cox says it's great. That's good enough for me.

Although..
"The visuals of the animation were augmented in such a way to make the Jedi fighting techniques appear realistic because, Derrick said: "What we found early in development is that [no one wants] to look like 'Star Wars kid' in front of [their] friends.""

I was impressed with the Kinect, it’s the first thing I've seen that does decent voice recognition. My only problem is that I don’t have quite enough distance where I have it set up so it stop detecting me from time to time.

The Star wars game is ok, when doing lightsaber training you get to put your arm out in front of you and the lightsaber flies of the table into your characters hand! I would also advise that when doing lightsaber battles that you get something to hold ( I used a WII lightsaber) as this helps you play better. All in all its lightsaber battles what’s not to like?!

I'm not reading one post etc etc.

Apologies Taxalot I somehow managed to completely miss that huge great link right there on this very page. I'm a twat.

Relatedly: fuck that Crave Online site right in the ass. It randomly drops this massive great banner down from the top of the page asking me to share their article with people while covering up a chunk of the content I'm reading. That kind of bullshit makes me want to hunt down the website owner and beat them to death with their own testicles. If I want to tell people about your thing I will do, but in what fucking universe is it going to help your chances if you shove things in my face and annoy the crap out of me with your nagging? I genuinely don't understand how some people's minds work.

Whoops, yeah - I edited that post of mine to make it a little clearer what I was quoting.

As well as being an utterly charmless (and to some possibly quite disturbing) metaphor, it's also jarringly wrong - malignant tumours are the very bad type.
