Five years ago, I met two Germans. They had names, but I struggled to pronounce (and spell) them, so I just called them Knut and Helga.

Since the exact day I entered their lives, Knut and Helga have been in love, and spent all of their time together (literally - I think they've only been apart for about a day since).
This, as you can imagine, had an effect on them - Helga became withdrawn, and more and more would only talk to Knut. Soon she didn't need other people in her life at all to get on with what she did, and would only talk to Knut.

Knut was still working, so did talk to other people - in fact, that was his job, he'd tell people things (often things that Helga had told him).

Sadly, for me, Knut and Helga have gotten old before their time, and me and them have to part ways.

This is going to lead to some forum downtime, sometime in the next month.

I'm going to miss them :(

It's about the servers that host them. The forums are called 'Bill' and 'Ted', durr.

I couldn't tell if this was a genuine sad story, or a tale of two servers.

Aw. We should leave them in place doing some meaningless task they can't mess up, or something. Like reviewing the answers to the anti-spam question.

I hear you, but I'm not into sentimentality when it costs £150PCM ;)

What are we supposed to do when there's no forum? Is it going to take a whole day or just a couple of hours? Can you do it when I'm not at work, so I am at liberty to go and do something else?

Seeing as how facial-focus recognition systems never seem to find Craster, maybe his face really could be used as a bot-fooling captcha of some kind.

If this is going to take ages we need to set up a temporary free board or something. Failing that, it might be fun to all pile onto WoS and just carry on like normal, as if we'd all been there the whole time.

Heh.

One day each year we should pick a totally random forum on the web (I don't know, Whioppet Fanciers United, or something) and invade it in said manner.

Well, the replacement server is configured, and I've migrated The Craster Scale onto it, and it seems fine.

Beex (along with everything else) will probably move this week :(

What should I call the new server? It is also German.

Quite. If we could have somehow harnessed the amount of energy that went into arguing about how it should have been done and used that, it'd be this year's Eurogamer ;)

Well, we're much leaner now WTB has removed the cancers, so I have high hopes for greater productivity in 2012.
