What do you chaps use for storing pins and passwords on your phone?

Actually, when I was in about 12/13, I wrote a program in basic, that stored the pin for my first bank card. When you ran it, it asked you some questions, if you got them all right, it gave you the pin, but there were some number questions (how many stairs are there in your house? in inches how much taller is your dad than your mum?) in there, and it used the answer you gave to those questions to work out what the pin was. Obviously if you didn't know the answers to those it gave you the wrong pin. I was quite pleased with it at the time!

I've had some people recommend https://agilebits.com/onepassword to me - I haven't set it up yet though. Works with all sorts of devices.

No... They are system generated in most cases

Isn't it a bit dangerous to have an app that remembers your passwords? (says the person who just stores them in the browser)

My dad has them all in a text file and copies and pastes them as necessary. And no the file isn't called passwords.txt

How often does it challenge you when you're browsing (I'm assuming it auto-inserts the passwords for you)? Every time? Once per session?

Once per timeout period, which is quite short (a few minutes) but (I think) configurable. I can check that for you.

It syncs via Dropbox, which stores old versions of files. That guards against file corruption or loss of the device.

Apart from password reuse or memorising lots and lots of passwords, both of which are weaker schemes, what alternatives are there?

It's more from the security aspect of having a single point of entry to all my information that freaks me out.

I think that's pretty unavoidable without going to extreme lengths isn't it? I mean if someone gained access to my main email account then even without knowing anything else they'd be able to reset half of my passwords anyway.

You should use Derren Brown memory tricks to memorise those long system generated passwords.

Or, write them down on a post it stuck to your monitor like everyone else.

I use Lastpass for most of my passwords excluding the really important ones like Bank, PayPal & Email

A really good way is to use phrases or sentences.
"Grim...isfuckingcool" is a pretty good password, but something like "My postcode's SE11AA!" is fearsome good, and easy to remember.

Doesn't help you when you get a retarded website that refuses to allow passwords longer than 9 characters though.

There's a special circle in hell reserved for web developers that do that.

I use systems that generate 9 letter passwords, they are hard to remember...
