This has arrived in Shropshire... it has gone dark as there is that much rain

The north is oddly warm, I suspect the weather is planning something cunning.

Just been to the shop to buy a pint of milk. It's freezing cold out there. There's been a frost overnight, so that's good for the sloes, but, by gods, it's cold. Will purchase some gloves. Good thing is, it can't get much colder.

Had to de-ice my car this morning.

I am not looking forward to getting up at 4 tomorrow...

It was -3 at 9am. I think they said it is -2 at the moment. It rained last night so there is ice everywhere and my shoes are inappropriate for the conditions.

I'm hearing this a lot, you know. Also, people are incredulous that I've never, ever been sledging, as far as I can recall.

Last winter I'm sure there was a whole week where the temperature didn't go above -10 at all. The toilet in my spare bathroom froze.

At the weekend I insulated the henhouse with 1" kingspan. They'll be warm at least.

I found out shortly after buying my current work shoes that they are completely unsuitable for wet conditions as the grips are useless, so I'm looking at buying some better ones before the weather gets worse.

Anyone recommend a brand that looks ok for fairly formal office wear but at least has some kind of grip to them too? I was looking at the some of the Timberland stuff at the weekend but I was hoping not to have to fork out £100 on a pair of shoes if I can help it.

Base of London do some smart workshoes / boots.. I have 2 pairs brown and black
or Doc Martins, or Next even...

but I think I have too many shoes..

Buy some emery paper in B&Q and superglue a couple of small strips to the soles.

There's "De-Icer" and "DeIcer" isn't there. I'm sure I remember someone from here saying one was good and the other was useless.

Cheaper and quicker than spray, requires effort though of course.

I think that hyphens have a freezing temperature of -162°C and so are the magical ingredient. De-icer without hyphens is as good as shovelling more snow onto your windscreen. I think there is a hyphen shortage as we are quickly depleting the atmosphere's natural hyphen resources, so hyphenated de-icer will be very expensive in the coming months, and in short supply, so stockpile all the hyphens and hyphenated de-icer that you can.

I've put three hyphens in the above message for you, to get you started. Good luck, and may your windscreen and other iced parts be free from cold.

It is now winter here, we put the heating on last week (now it gets too hot in the evening :lazy:), I had to de-ice my car this morning and I got stuck behind people doing 35mph in case they slid off the road and died in a fireball and I'm wearing a vest under my shirt.

Stupid winter. I hope it doesn't snow this year.
