Nope, my comments are honed by bitter experience and offered out of a desire to a: not have my taxes spent on any more of this shit than absolutely necessary and b: not having the green sites near my house full of ropey mobile homes.

Now I think about it, most such prefabs and caravans in the UK seem to be made on Humberside... maybe if the government took all these millions and bought the companies then closed them down...?

You'll be pleased to know that the whole world got a view up her skirt as she tussled with the police.

Yes. I'm currently unsure that, given it is mid October, why they don't just spray a very fine mist of water over the protesters locked to the scaffold, then wait.

If I find some, I'll pass it on. It was only a minor moment, in the grander scheme of things.

There are protesters who want them to to allowed to stay, and protesters who want them to leave.

Jon Baron, the local MP: "the protesters have said that they are their at the request of the travellers, so could the travellers please request them to leave....walking around with iron bars and threatening violence is not acceptable...the police have been pursuing their operation as calmly, resolutely and safely as possible...it is vital that the police maintain law and order, otherwise there would be a bunfight"

Dear All, I am sorry my Tweet was mis-construed. Of course I do not want anyone hurt at #dalefarm and hope the situation ends peacefully.

I fear we may be hearing more about this matter …

That's an odd use of "bunfight". I've always seen it used to mean a slap-up fancy dinner.

Hold on, they are trying to get an injunction because the police illegally entered an illegal site?

Good luck with that one!

The woman from the Solidarity Group sounds like a robot, and keeps repeating the same lines and, when challenged over them, switches into the next argument which is once again shot down. She's even talking about the UN being blocked form being involved and police brutality. She didn't like being asked if she "was a privileged young woman who goes from protest to protest to get kicks". Which amused me a bit.

Better to walk out than be manhandled by bailiffs and it allowed them to retain a certain amount of dignity.

One more important point to note is that none of the people arrested by police were travellers. Which makes a few of the comments in this thread look rather silly.

As daylight broke over Dale Farm, the bailiffs continued to remove the last of the makeshift barriers and "locked-on" protesters. But Arran and Danya "locked on" to a barrier nearby have been completely ignored. They have their hands bound together on either side of a fence and can't free themselves and have been forced to spend the night in the open. "It could be worse", said Arran, 26, a charity fundraiser from Bristol.

Made me smirk, yesterday. I think it was from the Telegraph.

Dignity would have been compliance with the ruling of the court before trying to bleat on about racial discrimination and human rights.

What Basildon should have done is sneak in a load of people from the housing list and let them start squatting on the site, change all the caravan locks and then just shrug when the Dale Farm owners tried to get them evicted.

It cost £18 million quid to evict them?

£18 million?!

That would have been trespass though, surely?

I wonder where this 18 million figure comes from? I've seen it banded around a lot, but does it include rehousing everyone? The clean up? All the legal fees for the last 10 years?

Yup, but trespass isn't a crime, it's a tort - the owners would need a court order to evict them.

Round two?

Quote:
"Although the majority of the 400 people who lived on Dale Farm have moved on, and there have been no complaints of trespass linked to them, it seems many have moved on to the legal side of the site. "This may exceed planning regulations and we will be looking at the extent of that. Also, because the caravans are packed very tight, it poses a health and safety risk. "We will talk to the travellers and take legal measures but, ultimately, we may have to resort to further direct action in order to remove them.
