Anyone got this yet? Despite its flaws I rather enjoyed what I played of the last one of these. I love shooters where you can take your time and puzzle your way through.

I saw it in the shops the other day and noticed it got 8/10 in the Eurogamer review, but I didn't read the text while stumbling around the shop, and will certainly not take a punt on it.

I'll probably get it when it's a fiver. Will maybe have competed the last one by then too.

Let me know if you want to co-op it, as I haven't touched it yet. Also, Race Pro!

After reading some very mixed reviews I just decided to hire this out in the end and see for myself. Had a go last night and unless I'm missing something there seems to be almost no kind of tutorial or guidance of any kind. Just a ten minutes of whatever the fuck cutscenes and gritty dialogue clearly cobbled together by someone who has watched Generation Kill, missed the point but nevertheless thinks they have a future as a film maker.

After the cinematics and a brief go on a shooting range you're thrown into battle, several dozen waypoints and icons begin floating around before your eyes and then the shouting starts. Always the shouting, either your squad or some gobby higher up army man type. After ten or so minutes of sort of randomly wandering around getting shot and shooting a couple of baddies whilst trying to figure wtf is going on and who and where your men are and "DO THIS", "NOW DO THAT", "WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU STUPID IDIOT HEAD, I SAID DO THIS", "WE'RE TAKING CASUALTIES", "DANGER CLOSE", "ETC" then you get a message informing you that your task has been completed. The next mission seemed a bit less chaotic but again I seemed to emerge victorious regardless of the fact that I didn't actually know what was going on or where the baddies were. The game seems to want to hurry you forward all the time whereas what I was expecting was more of an opportunity to stand back, scope things out and actually formulate tactics. I dunno perhaps I was tired and doing it all wrong. I'll play some more tonight.

So - was this worth buying then? Was thinking of picking it up cheapzors today. The alternative is Red Dead Redemption. (it's the month to buy things with "Red" in the title)

Red Dead is very good. But I put it down in a huff after many hours, as I seem to be getting mauled by cougars (art imitating life, again) too much. I think you'll like Red Dead.

No. I need to either move the XBox from the basement and hardwire it in, or buy a wireless thingymagummy.

Once I get around to doing that, I will. But I would have tried the multiplayer for you, if I were to have had it.

There's a whole selection of standard multiplayer tropes, which are generally better done in other games, 6 coop missions which are fun but not long. Freeroam which is fun so long as you make it so with excellent chums, but not overly structured. Sadly there's nothing in mp that measures up to the sp but a fair amount of Hilary was had.

I found adequate levels of Hilary in the multiplayer but as Mr Dave says, you have to make your own fun in it to a degree. The single player is super top awesomes though regardless.
