I can't really afford many full price games these days but 12 months on from the release of Halo Reach I'm looking to invest in a new up-to-date FPS with an strong multiplayer community, and which isn't a load of old shit. I particularly like Reach for your avatar being no more powerful than the next guy's at game start. When someone beats me on there, either they are better than me, or its lag. None of this laser sight vs. pea shooter CoD nonsense where no matter how much you play you're always a little behind everyone else.

So what's it going to be? Is Rage an exciting new option? Will everyone just dump the rest (including BlOps) for Modern Warfare 3: When Plots Go Belm and it'll be a case of spend 40 quid on that or go and fuck myself? Will Battlefield 3 be any better than the ropey beta experience? Are we all playing The Darkness multiplayer now?

Most Beexlings are playing Gears of War 3 right now.

If it lasts as long as GoW2 did on here I'd say wait a while until it price drops.

Ditto. Also, gears isn't a FPS is it? I wouldnt advise getting blops either...Ive been playing mw2 again recently and it is by far the better game. Much more fun too. I really hope mw3 is as good.

Does it matter if that's the online game everyone is playing? It's not like the shift in perspective changes much. It plays exactly like an FPS.

Well... technically you're correct. But it's still the bestest shooter.

MW3 or Battlefield. Rage doesn't have deathmatch.

I'm sensing a lack of consensus on Battlefield 3 though, don't want to go for that and end up with either a shit game or one eschewed by Bezzies keen to pay their annual £40 CoD tax.

Yeah the demo hasn't impressed me but seems to be a wonkey version of something that if balanced, debugged and polished, will be a refreshing alternative to MW3 for me.

Is it the case that both soldiery titles have extrsa online shite one must register for on top of Live? I know Battlefield does becausde I think I'm in it already due to having Burnout Police Need For Autolog Cuntmodule briefly last year and playing the BF3 demo got me emails from EA. CoD are doing the same, right?

The more I think about it the more I'm looking forward to just playing Halo CE in high def on my lounge telly. That game on PC multiplayer is unparallelled fun.

COD's online stuff is CODELITE (someone needs to have a better name).

Its basically stats tracking and information - and although its 'nice' its not something i'd pay for + all the DLC for the game.

So basically your buying your map packs up front - and if you were going to buy them anyway its slightly cheaper

Not many FPS games have a good cover system, though. Also, technically correct, etc, etc.

Yeah, Gears of War has the best cover / recovery system IMHO.

I'll definitely be getting BF3. It'll be good. The beta was a shitfest, but it showed enough to keep my confident that it'll be just as good as Bad Company, and that means it'll be good. Just a poor choice of map really.

I'll be getting Halo and MW3 as well, obv. But I envisage Battlefield being my multiplayer game of choice in the long run. Unless they manage to fuck it up. Halo CE basically has Reach's multiplayer with some new (old) maps tacked on from what I've heard, which is good.

Plus original guns. W00t.

I enjoyed the hell out of the Battlefield Beta. The only low points were slightly unreliable servers. Everything else was great.

Having just picked up War for Cybertron and delved into the multi, I'm considering stopping there for a while. Fab stuff.
