What difference does that make? It's still sci-fi.

Sam doesn't have to deal with badly made up 'monsters' or fire shit lasers or throw polystyrene rocks at space knobs. It relied on decent stories rather than CGI bollocks.

I'm almost positive he does all of those things. Not sure about the rocks.

My favourite one was the one with the pool shark, and Ziggy drew the aiming lines onto the table for him :)

Awesome smack-down post, Trooper. If BSG and Firefly hadn't come along I'd be arguing this and saying, no, clearly Babylon 5 is the bestest spacey thing on TV ever. But they did. And they sort of showed up B5's amateurish acting and heavy-handedness and slightly stolid direction too much. Not that Star Trek was much above that at the time, though it did have more better actors, guest and main. What B5 had beyond doubt was a killer plot and superb pacing, and was pretty much the only show thus far to accurately judge how long questions can dangle before answering them and how many more questions can be offloaded onto the audience. True, the effects haven't dated well. The sets certainly hadn't. True, humour was clompingly unfunny much of the time - unless the character was Londo. True, the last season was almost all shite. But it did have that Frank Herbert scope, and it did know how to be fun, and how to not be stingy with the space battles. It was a great work of world creation that unfortunately was let down by workmanlike writing, acting and direction.

Truth be told I haven't seen it since I was a teen, as I fear now I'd cringe watching it. After all, we live in the age of The Wire, Whedon and West Wing. But I cannot lie, I loved the hell out of it for seasons one through four and don't regret watching it at all. And anyone who says that the entire Londo tragedy where he got everything he wanted and it turned to shit in his hands was a poor tale in the telling is utterly wrong.

Thank god you haven't gone totally mad, as I pretty much agree with most of that. My opinion of B5 is tailored by the fact that I first watched it all in 2009. I imagine my opinion would be different if I had watched it at the time it was current.

For me, the acting and writing is so bad, that I can't see past that to the good story underneath.

Best I can find is this page

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~culttv/qleap.htm

Which says that it was shown between 13th of Feb 1990 and 21st June 1994 so looks as if it may have been almost a year behind the US but the first ep was still 21 years ago

For anyone that remembers me talking about my heart MRI and stuff, I had my referral appointment at the hospital today.

After an ECG and EKG, and some prodding, they've said something is not quite right with the right bit of my heart, and they'd like to do more tests. As before this may or may not be anything to worry about. Right side of heart is better than left, as the right bit works less so a bit of wonkyness isn't likely to immediately kill me.

Worst case I might have to have some genetics tests to see if I have a specific condition that would preclude me doing strenous things like running marathons in future.

This is a rather extreme excuse for getting beat by a girl at Fitocracy...

Take it easy fella, I hope the further tests reveal it to be nothing too serious and that it's fixable or something that won't affect you much at all.

Let us know how it goes.

Buck Rodgers, Star Fleet, Terrahawks, New BSG, Sliders, Quantum Leap, some TNG, DS9, GitS. Possibly some others, I'll have a think.
EDIt - Farscape, Firefly (FIREFLY FFS), Space Above and Beyond, Star Wars - The Clone Wars...

Space: Above and Beyond was AWESOME! Then it got cancelled for no reason!

Seriously good show; I loved it back in the day. Plus, it had actors with funny names.

Also, very underrated is Stargate: Universe.

Not all of the episodes were great, and it had one of the worst resolutions to an excellent series finale ever, but some of the episodes were absolutely magnificent. I still say that 'Time' stands up to any time travel story I've seen on my tellybox.

Sorry to hear that the ECG and EKG have shown something a bit wonky, EBG. Hope it works out for you and that it fixes itself fine over time.

Ah I'll be fine. I'm certainly OK at the minute, I feel perfectly healthy and ran a 10k at the weekend. I suppose they're just guarding against the risk of sudden death. The cardiologist did hint it could be ARVC, which if you google the first thing it says is '2ND MOST COMMON CAUSE OF UNEXPECTED DEATH'.

Reassuring :D

EKG: Stick electrodes to your chest and get a paper printout representing your heart activity.
ECG: Like a pregnancy sonar thing where they look at your heart from a variety of angles using soundwaves n' that.
EBG: Angry gnome-like figure with dodgy ventricles.

Seeing as how EBGG is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the EKG on the QT? 'Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA, and then we'd all be put out in KP.

Final fun fact - The hospital staff are so lazy that when I went upstairs for the echo, they asked me to wait and take the results back down to the cardiologist myself. Naturally I stopped halfway down the stairs, took the piece of paper out the envelope, took a picture of it on my phone, and then emailed a copy to my family while I was waiting to see the cardio who was going to tell me what it all meant :D

Felt stealthy.

Heh, I've had that quite a bit. It is weird to be walking round a hospital carrying your own test results.

Things to do today:

Badger Landlord
Pick up armchair and footstool I purchased from eBay
Continue to try to find a job in 'the worst recession since 1930'
Um, that's it.

I wouldn't mind so much, but getting up each morning, and watching everyone go to work whilst I walk to the shop, by a paper and a pint of milk and then come home again, to wait there for many hours until MrsA gets home is getting really quite lonely. I think I'm going to start those free OU courses on things, as I can feel my brain atrophying through lack of use. The temporary agencies have said that 'having more office experience' would be a 'definite advantage' as'you're obviously bright, but are clients don't often see things like that', and I've pretty much now caught up with most of the job sites, and now am searching in "posted in the past 24 hours". So, all in all, pretty rubbish.

Aww, man. I'm sure something will turn up soon. Go for a bike ride or something.

I know. It's on kids channels though, I'm so glad my little girl loves it as much as I do.

I drove past one of these today and all I could see was Jake:

On the plus side... BADGER LANDLORD! edit:damn, not quick enough.

Sorry to hear this Mali, I'm sure something will come along soon. Probably the big change of scene is what's making you sad, and that will pass quickly.
