We recently announced that, going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players. So what does this mean for our current Zune users? Absolutely nothing. Your device will continue to work with Zune services just as it does today. And we will continue to honor the warranties of all devices for both current owners and those who buy our very last devices. Customer service has been, and will remain a top priority for us.

Unsurprising, really.

Have to say, and I know there are those on here that do this, I've never understood folks who have an iPod and a separate phone, rather than an iPhone. So this seems to make a lot of sense as a way to persuade people who like Zune to make the jump to WP7.

That's a bit sad, although not surprising. The first Zune's were quite a way ahead of the MP3 players at time time.
Mine has stopped working now :(

I pay £10 a month for my phone. That's why. :)

However Come the glorious day, I'll probably get an iPhone.

I agree with Craster over it being a good opportunity to help people over to Wp7.

I always wanted a Zune.

Why? It's much cheaper.

When I have my coat on I have my iPod in my left tit pocket and my HTC Wildfire in my right tit pocket. Not much of a problem really, both are pretty small.

<waves>

I can't get my podcasts onto my phone. Or even connect it to a computer.

Not sure why, but I've never been one for listening to music through my phone. I only realised the other day that I've no idea what media players, if any, are installed on my Android phone.

For music I just have a Zen Stone things and it's not even half full. Just enough music for my strolls to work and town and I'm happy.

I know it does. It also has a smaller capacity micro SD card so I can't fit much on it.

My iPad Touch has Solomons Keep though.

Once my contract is up on my current phone I'll look at getting something that does everything well, as it stands my iPod Touch has a much nicer browser so I only use my phone for calls, Word Feud, Twitter, GPS and pics. I'd like a nicer Android phone or maybe even an iPhone, still have over 12 months to go before this is up though.

What worries me is battery drain.

Phones are "always on" during the day, so using them for games/music (I have a nokia n900) really drains the battery limiting talk time and even standby time...

So much so that I am thinking of having 2 devices next time round, a touch for games/music and a semi smart phone (or perhaps an iphone with some sort of android tablet for music/games).

I really don't know what my best option is going to be...

Also an iphone costs a lot of money. I currently have an ipod touch 3rd Gen and a Nokia5800 (the latter cost me £30 from LewieP and the former being go via the ipoints scam).

I hate my 5800, and have to carry two phones. A works one and a the Nokia.

My Ipod lives in the car, connected to the stereo.

I don't like iPhone's as a phone, so I have an android phone, which is an excellent music player, and I have an iPod touch as a dictaphone that can play games.

Edit: and I got the iPod touch cheap, obv.

That's one situation where you'd be much better off with a Zune. Or would have been. Or whatever.

Has iPod got any competition left now?

Do iPods still need iTunes or have they fixed that properly now? While the Sandisk Sansas are infinitely better at sound quality, the design of the current little square clippy Nanos and the Llamasoft/FLStudio possibilities of an iPod touch make them interesting devices. But I want them to talk to Windows Media Player. Second hand, obv.

Then you need a programme called Mgtek Dobisp (I think that's what its called anyway)

I've been using it for ages and it works perfectly!

My iPod doubles as my brain and it's entirely possible that I might have to tap information into it that I am receiving during a telephone call. It's quite hard to type on a PDA that is stuck to the side of your head, I'd imagine, so for me the wonderment is reversed... how the hell do people NOT have a separate phone?!
