Uh. I just received an email from Gamestation with a beta code for GoW 3. Apparently I pre-ordered the game from them. I have no recollection of this, and should probably look into that... Anyway, anyone else in the beta?

edit: It appears I pre-ordered with GAME ages ago, but I've received the code from Gamestation. Weird.

A friend has been playing it, but I filthy pirated Bulletstorm so didn't get a code. Nor do I have any interest in playing Deathmatch.

Can't wait for the actual game, though!

not sure if i have you added - are you jonarob on Live? That aside, the download is so slow for me the actual game may be out by the time it completes.

I'm quietly excited about it. It's practically guaranteed awesome, but I'm not desperate to play it immediately.

Played a bit of this earlier this week only to re-discover I'm the worst MP Gears of War player in the world...still it did give me lots of 'You are shit' awards.

Been playing a bit of the beta this week and I quite like it. I've always preferred COD's multiplayer over GOW but it turns out I might not have given it enough time. I can't aim for shit though: are people shooting from the hip mainly or doing the zoom in aim? I always seem to get bested close range.

The levels I've played on the week 2 beta are small tight affairs and really good. The weapons are bloody hard work though - the sight on the retro lancer just fires straight up, and it takes forever to pump someone with enough bullets to make them fall over. But then I discovered executions...charging at someone from behind with the Lance and impaling them in the air has the right amount of "Fuck You" that you want to scream! Great fun.

Elsewhere I can't work the shotguns but that might have something to do with aiming or shooting off the hip. The sawn off shotgun's siming sight made me smile though as it's just a box that spans half the screen and nothing other than standing right on top of someone will do.

But the main problem I had with GOW over COD was how long it took to get a match. If the full game is as quick as the beta to get a match this might be very good.

I've been playing this all week and its more of the same with a few tweaks. This is by no means a bad thing though as Gears 2 was awesome.

I too am rubbish at aiming. Everyone else's gun seems to be more powerful than mine and I rarely win at close quarters. The retro lancer is cool but a real pain when you don't hit the running bayonet move.

I totally don't ‘get’ jumping at the chance to play a beta.

Yeah these people who want to play a hotly anticipated as yet unreleased game ahead of time are total weirdos.

Call me weird, but I want to play a game when it's ready for release. If I'm hotly anticipating something, I want it to be ready and as polished as possible when I finally get my hands on it.

Like the WoW betas. Nothing counts, everything is buggy, loads of the changes don't make it into the final release, and things change daily. What's the point?

GOW3 is none of these things. It's polished plus you get unlockables that, as far as I'm aware, you won't get in the full game (golden guns and character skins). Sorry but you're missing out on this occassion.

Plus, there's little difference between a beta and lots of demos. Did you used to throw away the disks sellotaped to the front of magazines?

I'm not a massive fan of the deathmatch modes, but Horde is great.

Left 4 Dead/2 are the only ones I can really think of that did it better. Halo: ODST is significantly inferior (which Reach improved on, admittedly). Crackdown 2 and CODWOWZOMFGIES!!!!11 I never played.

Amazon are Priming me up for this bad boy. More of the same with four player campaign and expanded multiplayer and horde mode, I guess.

I wasn't going to get this but I joined Myptik in the Prime stakes. I somehow bought the first tww games on launch day too for some reason. Haven't bought a disc based 360 game in ages.

EDIT: Seemingly forgotten how to spell.

I will be getting this at some point. Probably when I see it for £20-25.

I'll be needing a surprise Wullie for the 1337 playthrough.
