I posit that people who prefer Alien to Aliens will also prefer Terminator to Terminator 2.

Tough one, but ultimately, Alien and Terminator 2.

Terminator 2 is a little neglected by sci-fi snobs. Although it doesn't have quite the grungy dark poetry of Terminator (little tops the first film's future-flash) it does have strong ideas and a wonderful score. It also has the best baddy in sci-fi history. If you see a man running unusually fast with a focused look with his arms doing little karate hand chops before him, the first thing you think is, "Oh shit! A terminator!" We have Robert Patrick to thank for that.

Alien is just great. Aliens is fab too, but I love the confined feeling in Alien, the way it feels as if there's the cold void outside the ship and nowhere to run. Ash is superb and ultimately terrifying. Sigourney is a revelation. The entire cast are awesome and you get bonus Yaphet Koto!

Yeah, I prefer the Alien films over Terminator. I also like the Predator films more than Terminator.

T2 is awesome. It's one of my favourite films, but I think I've seen it too many times and in too many versions. The first Terminator is... perfect.

Although... if Kyle had never had sex before, the sex scene's probably not very realistic :)

Kyle - "Sorry, it's my first time"
Sarah - "It's ok, we can go again when you're ready"
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Arnie - "Sarah Connor?"
Kyle - :'(

Alien and T2 for me as well, I'm afraid.

Which is weird, when I think about it, because I think Aliens is more re-watchable than Alien.

Unfortunately, it also has an annoying child in it and 'teaching robot killing machine stupid phrases', so it's Alien and Terminator for me.

Aliens and Terminator 2 because they are both more action packed and therefore exciting to me.

I love all four films but action will always triumph over suspense for me.

I like films, but it takes a lot of effort to pin me down and watch one. Once I'm watching it I usually enjoy it, but I can always think of loads of things I would rather do.

Hmm... has it ever occurred to anyone that we don't really have a word to describe a feature length pre-recorded visual play?

'Movie' is short for Moving Picture, which is gay and 'Film' is an (increasingly archaic) description of the medium.

So... what are they actually called?

Aliens and T1 gets it for me.
Aliens is an easy choice over the first one, but the two terminator films are much harder to pick... A tighter storyline vs Big budget action.

Terminator over Terminator 2.

Aliens over Alien, as Alien really hasn't aged well.

Hell, yeah! It's a good film, but not a patch on the original, pretty much for the reasons Devilman mentions.
[EDIT]Also, I have a man-crush on Michael Biehn, for some reason.
I do prefer Aliens to Alien, though.

Said child was older than me when it came out (and when I saw it, I think), so instead of annoying, he was just a cool dude who pegged about on his bike listening to Gn'R and being naughty.

Pete needs a movie blog. Where he writes a paragraph about something he loves as often as he can.

Every difference between Terminator and its sequel can be summed up with:

Quote:
grungy dark poetry of Terminator

The problem is that Alien is a tight, confined, scare the shit out of you horror movie and Aliens is a tight, confined, exhilarating action movie. Trying to even compare them is impossible - same starting point, completely different directions.

Funny how someone said T1 hadn't aged well, 'cos large parts of T2 haven't. Nothing more early 90s than Edward Furlongs haircut. Of course, T1 is massively 80s too, but it doesn't pull you out of enjoying the film as much. T2 is a lot of peaks and troughs. T1 is more consistent.

Impossible to choose - they are all too good in their own way.
