No lynch is a good idea, did you modify Craster's code yourself? If so, doubleplus bonus.

I think Dimrill is hinting at something.

He always seems that way, though!

I think there'll be some more action tomorrow if, say, 2-3 people have died and yet there's still no real info around. Not lynching on the first day seems reasonable but it does hand the initiative over (as does lynching someone innocent, but, as one or two have said, the downside to that isn't that great). As you say, though, Richard, it looks like it's working out well at the mo.

Umm, what, SA? There should be threads here:

Day I: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1227
Day II: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1236

Dammit. I'm worried I've made the vamps too weak. They can only bite twice, and if both biters sing out, the vamps can't be sure if the VH will protect them, so can't risk coming back. I'm concerned the vamps are not going to be able to recruit at all. I should have made it so the Embrace happens after two visits but that the visits don't have to be consecutive. At the moment if the bitten person(s) from last night speaks up, and is believed, I think the vamps might struggle. Sooner or later the SK, Vig, or a lynch will get lucky and then it'll all be over.

Will it break the game too badly if I change that rule now, do you think?

hmmm, can't answer that, as you have a much better handle on the rules than I. Presumably if a bitee is protected and then targetted again, they might die? If there is only one protector then I can see how a 1/2 chance would seem a bit risky.

I'd leave it for now - it still, thanks to the large player pool, needs a fair amount of luck (or a vampire panic) for the townies to pick out both vampires early on, and presumably someone bitten by the sire one night can then be turned by new-sire if the old sire is killed.

That said, I typed all of that forgetting the "twice in two nights" rule. If it weren't for that, the vampires could allow people to protect the first bitee, bite another couple on the second night and then all bets would be off as to who they might return for. As it is, yes, they might struggle but maybe whoever was bitten last night has a bit of devil in them.

I think you're right to do so - despite my earlier wibblings. It might have tilted it too far towards the vampires, though I suspect I'm only saying that because the townies still look like they can't decide who to lynch - if they keep that up there'll be a few potential convertees knocking about, but we'll see. Be interesting to see what happens - if it is unbalanced then you could always give a bitee a time limit - that would make it impossible to protect everyone who was bitten, whilst still meaning that one bite wouldn't make someone a dead cert for conversion late, and make it much more of a judgement call as to whether a townie should say "they came for me" or not.

Hello Bobby!

Just been catching up on the game thread. Well, in between bouts of helpless laughter. The Dimrill bumming stuff is gold.

My phone rang just as I noticed the last of the bumming posts - they were a bit put out by me giggling at them down the phone. Fab stuff!

Mr Dave would be an interesting one for a role.

Craster is doing the same "busy saying nothing" as he did last time, when a mafia doctor.

Just notes to myself, so I can say told you so if I am correct!!

And it is stacking up:

Mr Dave wrote:
One thought: Who would particulary want to kill Bobbyaro? Just random chance (I'd say there were better choices, all things told) or for a personal reason? If for a personal reason, one person stands out from the crowd - Curiosity. What with them being chums and all. Next question: Do we actually want to kill the serial killer if we knew who he was? In games past, he'd generally be trying to do the towns work for the most part. In this game... Less so. At the moment - Yes. Am I convinced by my reasoning? Mmmm, partly, but as a first vote, it can't harm.

Good deflection.

Mr Dave wrote:

LaceSensor is up to something. Every time he (or is it a she?) runs through the player type list, they miss out the priest. And there was a reference to "a higher power".

Two suspicious quotes

Also, I just realised, my Murder was very linked to being skilled with surgical tools, and a stethascope was left behind. The tools of a Doctor. Now DrRG isn't in this game, and there isn't any other Drs on. Or isn't there, for those of you that don't know Curiosity's XBL GamerTag is Dr Curiosity. AAahhh, but wait!

No one calls him that here (that I have noticed), but, unusually, one person has been calling him Dr Curiosity, and Doctor of Curiosity..... Mr Dave.

Fewer townies, man!

The more I learn, the fewer I understand, as my housemate likes to say.

I'm quite enjoying this - it's still likely to pick up speed, and it's good to see a bit of stasis - makes for what looks like a more balanced game, even if the vamps are still actually a teeny minority. Looking forward to see who cops it.

So to summarise, by not lynching, they've lost a vanilla townie, a useful mason and possibly the best single killing weapon the town has.

And they still think it's the right tactic.

Lynch Runcle you fools!

EDIT : Or at least there's a reason for Mr Russ...

Why would he say 'angels', unless he knew something. Implying Mr Chris for priest, KevR for VH? Or have I misunderstood the rulez?

This might sound suicidal/stupid, but there's 18 of us alive, and we've got 1 Sire, 1 Childe (maybe 2) and 1 Serial Killer.
We're not going to win the game now and have a massive party with virtually the whole town still alive. All we can do is whittle the numbers down and see what's left at the end. Unfortunately this is the same tactic that plays right into the hands of the Vampires, but what else can we do?

To be fair, he's not the only one espousing this kind of thought, but congrats I think for running a bit more of a slow-burner of a game. People's need to do *something* is fascinating, I think, and is leading to a few role claims when really there ought to be no need at this stage.

Hehe, I hope so! I hope people aren't getting too frustrated with it. I certainly wanted -- and got -- a very different feeling game here. My main concern, that a lucky hit on day one could cripple the vampires, didn't come to pass at least.

I'll be interested to see what people think of it when it's done.

Oh very well played Mr Dave.

Mr Dave wrote:
I did give enough clues. The very fact that I linked it specifically to the serial killer meant it had to be something visible to do with the serial killer. What two things stand out for him - Victims and Methods.

I've now been on WoS/here for 4 and a half years. I'd think in that time, and particulary over the last one, people would've come to realise my posting style, and also the kind of thing I am entirely incapable of. One such thing is coming up with death scenes like that (hint: Just reading it made me feel very, very ill, there's no way I could ever have come up with that, let alone post it) Go look in the Sharp photography thread, and my comment of "Several photos make me feel really ill", for similar reasons. In the past, I've ducked out of threads as 'The very idea of stitches makes me curl up into a ball and hide in a corner'

So yes, I'm not the serial killer. I may be a vampire (who is made ill by the thought of blood or anything penetrating the skin in a needlelike manner), but I'm certainly not the serial killer.

That's good except.

"Hey richard, write the death scene for me will you?"
