Sod that, at £20 a go, buy me a Tesla Roadster and a ninja sword and I'll happily deliver all orders.

Quote:
The Deliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallowed sub-category. He's got esprit up to here. Right now he is preparing to carry out his third mission of the night. His uniform is black as activated charcoal, filtering the very light out of the air. A bullet will bounce off its arachno-fiber weave like a wren hitting a patio door, but excess perspiration wafts through it like a breeze through a freshly napalmed forest. Where his body has bony extremities, the suit has sintered armorgel: feels like gritty jello, protects like a stack of telephone books.

When they gave him the job, they gave him a gun. The Deliverator never deals in cash, but someone might come after him anyway–might want his car, or his cargo. The gun is a tiny, aero-styled, lightweight, the kind of a gun a fashion designer would carry; it fires teensy darts that fly at five times the velocity of an SR-71 spy plane, and when you get done using it, you have to plug it in to the cigarette lighter, because it runs on electricity.

The Deliverator never pulled that gun in anger, or in fear. He pulled it once in Gila Highlands. Some punks in Gila Highlands, a fancy Burbclave, wanted themselves a delivery, and they didn't want to pay for it. Thought they would impress the Deliverator with a baseball bat. The Deliverator took out his gun, centered its laser doo-hickey on that poised Louisville Slugger, fired it. The recoil was immense, as though the weapon had blown up in his hand. The middle third of the baseball bat turned into a column of burning sawdust accelerating in all directions like a bursting star. Punk ended up holding this bat handle with milky smoke pouring out the end. Stupid look on his face. Didn't get nothing but trouble from the Deliverator.

Since then the Deliverator has kept the gun in the glove compartment and relied, instead, on a matched set of samurai swords, which have always been his weapon of choice anyhow. The punks in Gila Highlands weren't afraid of the gun, so the Deliverator was forced to use it. But swords need no demonstration.

The Deliverator's car has enough potential energy packed into its batteries to fire a pound of bacon into the Asteroid Belt. Unlike a bimbo box or a Burb beater, the Deliverator's car unloads that power through gaping, gleaming, polished sphincters. When the Deliverator puts the hammer down, shit happens. You want to talk contact patches? Your car's tires have tiny contact patches, talk to the asphalt in four places the size of your tongue. The Deliverator's car has big sticky tires with contact patches the size of a fat lady's thighs. The Deliverator is in touch with the road, starts like a bad day, stops on a peseta.

Why is the Deliverator so equipped? Because people rely on him. He is a roll model. This is America. People do whatever the fuck they feel like doing, you got a problem with that? Because they have a right to. And because they have guns and no one can fucking stop them. As a result, this country has one of the worst economies in the world. When it gets down to it–we're talking trade balances here–once we've brain-drained all our technology into other countries, once things have evened out, they're making cars in Bolivia and microwaves in Tadzhikistan and selling them here–once our edge in natural resources has been made irrelevant by giant Hong Kong ships and dirigibles that can ship North Dakota all the way to New Zealand for a nickel–once the Invisible Hand has taken all those historical inequities and smeared them out into a broad global layer of what a Pakistani bricklayer would consider to be prosperity–y'know what? There's only four things we do better than anyone else

music
movies
microcode (software)
high-speed cupcake delivery

Cupcakes with good quality frosting are extremely fragile, if the box goes upside down just once in the whole journey, they will be ruined.
I suspect your wife's friend doesn't do cupcakes with soft frosting, or she delivers via same day courier. If you have a link, i'd be very interested to check it out and see what she actually does!

From looking around on the web, there seems to be a few solutions.
1) Same day courier that you trust.
2) Hand delivered locally
3) Collection
4) Bespoke packaging that hold each cupcake individually.

1, 2 and 4 are all obviously expensive options.
If you do anything else, then you'll just end up with a mess in a box...

Cupcakes with poured fondant that sets are on the ideas board, along with a few other things, so there will likely be some options that we can post in the future.

The ad campaign would have Craster's head zipping round a Pacman-esque maze devouring cupcakes in place of dots.

Heh, that's actually quite reasonable for the market. Sure you can get cheaper, but they will most likely be crap. If you want them for weddings, then a lot of cupcake places charge £5 a go!

Shitting hell, really? 8) Next time I make some for the office I'll start charging the freeloading bastards.

One thing I spotted on the website: on the menu page you've got "Lemon Blosson".

£2 would be out of my personal price range for a cupcake, but there is a Market for them.

One thing you might consider, if you haven't already, is looking at a side line if macaroons. They are stupidly easy to make and perfect, can be made in all sorts of pretty colours, ship well as they are light and sturdy and (importantly) photograph beautifully. Search 'macaroons' on Flickr for inspiration on that front.

There will be some movement for bulk orders. More along the lines of buy so many, get a few extra free, rather than outright discounts.
It depends entirely on what people want, typically people want something a bit more elegant and fancy for weddings, with sugar flowers, ribbons etc... which actually puts the prices up rather than down ;) But a straight order from the classic menu in bulk would have some discussion around it.

WTB will be along with some SEO tips shortly.. whether you want them or not. ;)

Some obvious ones would be the meta keywords and descriptions, alt text for the images and better page titles. Plus if you're targeting a specific area, I'd probably mention that more too.

Apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know though.

More or less, yeah, although they usually have cream cheese frosting instead of buttercream, and you put buttermilk and white wine/cider vinegar in the cupcake batter too. This is the recipe I use:

They turn out AWESOME btw.

Strangely, but not so strangely if you think about it, bacon cupcakes (and cream cheese frosting to a lesser extent) are off the menu for the time being due to hygiene issues :D

A cupcake business is deemed extremely low risk, it is pretty much impossible to poison someone with a cupcake, and as such only needs to be registered with the council. They will give you a good health and safety assessment rating without even coming round your house, no double sink needed etc...
Once you start throwing meat and dairy into the mix, suddenly it becomes a more high risk enterprise with different regulations!

So, no bacon cupcakes on the menu... yet.

Yes, I now know a crap load more about the cupcake business than I ever thought I would this time last week :D

:D It'll be more to do with the cost to make and whether people will be willing to pay more for their misguided principles ;)

Are you going to do anything along the lines of getting a market stall somewhere as well? Great for both sales and getting the name out there. Whenever I wander round Greenwich Market I invariably buy an expensive cake or similar.
