That Evanescence bird is one of those sorts that makes me wish I was a piano stool. That said, it's a poor version of the song. No win!

I voted for The Wedding Present last night but I've just listened to I break horses again and wish I voted for that.

I can't vote until the weekend, but looking at the titles, I know both Maps and Date Rape, and will struggle with picking between them, especially if I like one of the others after listening as well.

I liked that too but it took a little too long to get going. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs track is good too.

Kennedy just picks you up and throws you about though. :metul:

I can't find another video of I Break Horses. If the submitter wants to let me have an MP3, I'll upload it and replace it in the thread.

Maps is probably the best song but it's way too obvious to go for that. The one I can't understand then!

My Immortal, wow I'd forgotten how lovely this song is. This isn't a great version but I assume that's the only one available so won't hold that against it. An early frontrunner.
The Wedding Present. Hmm. I like the guitars in this track but the vocal and lyrics aren't as interesting.
Don't like the sublime one.
The foreign band. I started this and was amused, then actually began enjoying it. The video is wonderfully mad but I didn't like the last twenty seconds or so. Almost a winner.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Brilliant. I love this band and I love this song. Currently joint leader with my immortal. Still got to listen to the video that didn't work but I see has been reposted.

Oh balls. I really like this song as well. I'll need to come back to this thread, I'm stuck between three songs.

There's a pretty good video for the Maps song:

And if the submitter wanted to submit it then they would have done, surely? I haven't played this before, but I'm gathering from comments like GY's that video selection is actually a factor in some people's voting, so if that is the case then posting alternate "better" videos is somewhat prejudicial to the fairness of the competition? Willing to be told I'm wrong though, just trying to establish how the game gets played... for example, if GY could find a video where that Evanescence song wasn't a load of warbling mince then could he post it and then vote for it despite it not being his song (presumably)? It strikes me that he shouldn't be able to, and if he is then he should just be ignoring the video in the first place.

Wow, there's only one song in this group that's any good, and I picked it. Pro-tip: its not wannabe-goth-linkin-park.

I thought the 'point' of the competition was to share and discover music. The competition part was ultimately a bit of meaningless fun; hence the link. I didn't embed the video, and no one need click on on the link if they don't want to.

I would have thouht that based on the trouble I had finding some songs I was looking for, lots of people just submitted the first one they found. We're not judging on the video are we? That strikes me as unfair. Also, let's say a particular song evokes strong memories for one person. Talking about the songs they could mention that which may cause others to hear the song in new light. That's totally fair and not much different to introducing people to an alternative video in my opinion.

I'm judging by the song only. Well apart from in one when it came down to two songs and I chose the one with the better video.

My Immortal - A not great version of an incredible track from a superb band. And she's so lovely! Ahhhh! They're better when they're rocking out though.

Hearts - Oooh I like this. Perhaps a bit too 'airy' in the final analysis, but very nice, extremely melodic. Would go well with certain recreational activities I think.

Kennedy - LOL this takes me back to about 1990. A girl I absolutely and totally fancied the arse off at college put it on a mix tape (one of several she did for me). We spent loads of time together in and around college, and I went round to her house a couple of times (she lived on a posh estate a few miles away, my dad ran me up there) and she played all her favourite songs to me, with the benefit of hindsight I should have perhaps tried to kiss her or something, but I was so totally and utterly in love with her that I couldn't bear the thought of rejection. At college we would spend two hour lecture sessions writing notes to each other and drawing little pictures and passing them back and forth. A little bit of me still loves her, I think. She taught me how to draw an elebum.

Appelknyckarjazz - Super duper funky, I love this.

Date Rape - Quite an interesting little track, and reasonably likeable.

Maps - I so love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, pretty much a shoe-in really.

The vote goes to...... Kennedy, for that wonderful guitar crescendo at the end and for the memories it brought back.

Evanescence - really not my cup of angst-tea.

Movits - feel like I'm stuck in Mos Eisley Cantina. With Rufus Hound. Jolly, though.

Date Rape - never been a fan of ska and this didn't really change my mind. Just glad it wasn't mixed up with I Break Horses.

Tough to choose between Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I Break Horses and Wedding Present. All fantastic songs, but I think it will have to be I Break Horses. Never heard of them before and v nice in a Nathan Fake fashion. I also missed Wedding Present first time around so will be off to the Spotify machine forthwith (in fact this competition is providing a lot of fuel for spotify- excellent and thanks to Craster for organising.)

I'm seriously considering giving you like, ten free points or something, for the elebum.

That I Break Horses song is really good. I shall be investigating them further. Also, I believe they've taken their name from a Smog b-side which I own somewhere. :nerd:

Evanescence - Meatloaf for a new generation. Nah.
I Break Horses - Promising start. Yeah, I like this one a lot.
Wedding Present - Fuck, yeah!
Movits - Hahaha! Er, no.
Sublime - Um, no.
YYY - Not really digging this one, I'm afraid.

Although I really like that I Break Horses song, it's just not enough to top Kennedy - one of my fave songs.

The 'I Break Horses' song was just piping long time favourite Maps. But something kept bugging me about it - it sounded like something else:

Is it just me?

Such a lovely word to say, that. A nice little song, and she's got a great voice.

I Break Horses
He breaks horses? The monster! I like the way this builds over the first couple of minutes, but then it doesn't perhaps take the turn I would have preferred it to, and stays almost as some kind of soundtrack or background kind of music. It's very pleasant, but doesn't quite hit the spot for me.

The Wedding Present
Quite generic indie-rock. It might be a grower, but sadly the song didn't really do much for me, and also reminded me of The Levellers, which is rarely a good thing.

Movits
This is kinda funky. I wish I could understand what he was saying... silly foreign languages! Cool little jazz/swing number though.

Sublime
I've heard a few of their songs before, and they've been okay but not really my thing. This falls into much the same category. Nothing against it per se, but it's probably not getting my vote.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I love this song, but it's quite well known so goes against my ethos of voting for something new to me, or something obscure that I already like.

That said, 'Maps' is definitely my favourite song of the ones picked, so I'll actually give it my vote anyway.

Evanescence - Was good until around the three-minute mark, when they decided to make it more "rocky".

I Break Horses - Really nice track.

The Wedding Present - I like this song.

Movits - Wow, this is pretty good. Really like this song!

Sublime - Pretty interesting song, this.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Middle-of-the-road indie fare.

I voted for Movits.

Thinking of this and week 2, Group F is the group with tastes most similar to mine it would seem.
