Has anyone here ever played much golf? I played it a bit a few years ago after PGA Tour II on the Mega Drive. Just on the local municipal courses but quite enjoyed it. I seem to remember getting slightly frustrated by my lack of progress although it was always a relaxing way to pass a Sunday morning. Anyway after not hitting a ball for about four years I took my nephew to the driving range the other day and I seemed to be hitting the thing in a remarkably straight line for once. I think I might try and get a couple of games in this year.

You should play a round of Octavia, pretty much the same but cheaper.

It's a very frustrating game. I've played a few times, although not recently. My brother is quite into it and I used to tag along. The main problem is how you can go one week and everything you hit is brilliant, then the following week you go brimming with confidence, only to spend most of your time trying to find your ball in some woods. I'd like to get back into it though. One of my mates has expressed an interest in going halves on a decent set of clubs and checking out a few courses near where I'm moving to.

It's a seductive game though, easy to convince yourself you can actually play it. I think after a round good golfers probably remember the bad shots they hit, whereas shit golfers like me only remember the couple of good ones then return brimming with false confidence.

I just bought myself another copy of this after I lent mine out and never got it back:

Brilliant book, it certainly helped me progress to the point where I could start to score games in strokes played rather than balls lost.

I play golf once a year, when I go off with my brother, Dad, and a couple of other chaps to France or similar for a weekend. We play several rounds of golf, eat lovely food and get drunk. 'Tis a marvellous time.

I would like to play more, but just don't have the time. I also have a spare set of clubs and a bag if anyone wants them.

I used to play every weekend back in the early to mid nineties. Started off terrible, made steady progress (was starting to hit in the 90's for eighteen holes) and then all of a sudden got utterly shit again (we're talking well into the 120's). I kind of gave up after I started university back in 1996 and never really felt like taking it up again - partly due to lack of time and partly just frustration over how bad I was.

I've been mad for the golf since I took it up in May last year. Me and Mrs Burrrrrrrrt have just come back from a week playing (easy and cheap) courses around Troon. Sometimes it takes me half the game to warm up. The first 9 I play really badly then I'm OK after that. I've also got some spare clubs if you want them Mark. Have you started a thread on MAS about this? There's even a golf thread on the Sidewalk forum.

I haven't posted on MAS for a while now, although I do seem to remember a thread on Sidewalk about it. It's quite surprising how many skaters are into golf, it's strange but there's a few parallels there, the most obvious one for me being that I find myself drawn to both despite a pronounced natural ineptitude. I've got some clubs ta mate, we should have a game some time.

Not played that one, Garstang's pretty good, there's also a nine hole in Poulton that's cheap and ok.
