AtrocityExhibition's post at #3 is disturbing as fuck

was going to bring this up in B&B but thought better.

Now I've seen all the standard dead cat and old man anus pictures around the internet and it's a very rare thing for me to sit back and go "what the shitting christ" did I just witness? I can't actually remeber the last time it happened. Until just now.

It starts with "Dear youtube This is fiction. The penis is not real. Thank you" you have been warned. Also if you do watch True blood then you are going to be twice as traumatized.

The most WTF thing I've seen recently, and it's killing me because I can't find the video, was a short film featuring a pregnant teenage girl having a frank discussion with her father about her pregnancy and whether she should get an abortion.

She's stood by a window, looking out to the world outside while talking to her father, who's sat on the sofa behind her.

The film lasts for about 5 minutes, the general gist of it being that the father doesn't agree with abortion but ultimately the decision rests with her and that he'll support her whatever she decides.

The way the film is shot, you can't really see any of the father except his face and part of his upper torso.

About 10 seconds away from the end of the video, the father stands up, and faces his daughter (who's still looking wistfully outside). The focus is on the daughter, but you can just about make out an isolated fleshy-coloured blur in the father's crotch. He then walks out, and it becomes abundantly clear that he was just sat on the sofa with his knob out for the entire conversation. Not masturbating or anything, just sat there with his John Thomas on display.

Freaky.

Going back to around 1997 or so here, when 56K modems were still pretty fancy and the real cool dudes had ISDN.

I clearly remember feeling emancipated by the internet, the power vested in me to search for anything to do with everything that interested me.

I happened upon some kind of 'this is the horrible world' site, which contained all sorts of terrible footage. All in low-res, with poor sound, shot on whatever video cameras abounded at the time - (mobile phones back then couldn't do photos let alone video) - and then crunched down to the internet video standards of the time.

One clip in particular I've never been able to forget, and perhaps the worst thing about it was that it was clearly staged in that the cameraman knew what was going to happen and where he should be standing to shoot 'the action'.

It was from a war-torn African county, and three massive soldier guys drove to a shack in a pick-up truck, one of whom was driving and two of whom were sat on the back.

As they pulled up in front of the shack, the two guys on the back of the truck jumped down, kicked the front door of the shack down, and emerged a few seconds later with a young boy, I'm guessing nine or ten years old, certainly pre-pubescent.

They were quickly followed by the boy's mother, who was screaming and beseeching the soldiers to release her child.

The soldiers carried the child onto the flat back of their pick-up truck, and then between them, proceeded to tie his arms and legs in a knot behind his back.

The audio track was poor, but the cracks and crunches of the child's bones in all four of his arms and legs, and his pitiful, terrified screaming were clear enough, as were the terrible wails of his mother. It is not a trivial task to tie human limbs up in a knot, and even the burly soldiers took some time about their task. I remember them putting their boots down on his elbows and then pulling at his arms the 'wrong way' to crack and break the bones. They did the same with his knees and legs, his ankles, his wrists. They basically turned his limbs into jelly, into string that they could tie a knot with.

Every time the frantic mother dared to edge closer to the atrocity that was befalling her son, the driver of the truck waved a semi-automatic weapon at her, the message was clear, one step closer and you're both dead.

After a couple of minutes, their task completed, and the child's mother, broken and screaming on the floor, the soldiers threw the child from the back of their truck onto the ground. Stomach and face down in the dirt, with his arms and legs improbably tied between behind his back, the child could not move, he could only cry for his mother.

As the truck drove off, the soldiers whooped and cheered, clearly satisfied with their work, I assume they had 'pre-emptively destroyed an enemy' or some such thing.

The mother ran forward to her stricken child, took him up in her arms, with his arms and legs still tied in a knot behind his back, and carried him back to her shack, at which point the camera panned away and the footage stopped.

To this day I think it's the most horrible thing I've ever seen.

There was a horrible site called Ogrish where I saw some chechnyian (spelling) rebels behead a soldier by basically hacking at his neck with a massive knife. The gurgling sounds as the knife goes in and then starts to slice through the neck is something I dont think i'll ever forget.

Stomachchurning!

I got semi-addicted to "bad internet stuff" a fair while ago.
That's a portion of my life that I'm glad is over.

I came to read the comments made since the topic started, to decide whether or not I wanted to click on the link as the context isn't immediately clear but I'm erring on the side of caution.

What I didn't expect to see or read was AEs post so yeah, any chance of spoilering that? I'm not sure there was any need for you even to describe it in such graphic detail, to be honest.

If anyone else had done it, you'd be berating them for being inhuman and not understanding because they don't have kids.

I worked in a shop where the other guys were massively into porn and trying to find horrible things on the internet to freak each other out.

The one with a man wearing see through plastic pants shitting himself was really quite unpleasant :spew:

Also, even just reading and seeing a few stills from SWAP.avi made me want to throw up.

edit: my link isn't graphic it's more of a total mind fuck - which is far more subtle and freaky than anything like meatspin to me now.

You bastard Grim..., I'd just about managed to 'unsee' that, and now it's back in my brain again.

It really is excruciating to watch, although at the same time I was thinking, seriously dude, don't stick fucking glass jars up your arse, and that sort of thing won't happen.

I liked the part where he tried to pull all the bits of broken glass out of his bumhole.

It was like a really bad magician's trick.

Why watch stuff like this? What's the attraction? My brother watches some nasty shit on the internet, but I really just can't get my head around why you'd want to see people being hurt, humiliated, tortured or killed. Without being judgmental (except about my brother :)), that strikes me as a little mentally unbalanced, to be honest. The one in AE's post, I'd have switched off as soon as I realised what was going on. If I knew what it was beforehand, I wouldn't have pressed play in the first place. Just reading that was bad enough.... :spew:

You tend to learn to spot the warning signs for a blood/gore/japanese fetish porn very very quickly - much like knowing a song from the first few bars, it's normally a question of knowing who linked it, installing the fuck out of flashblock and reading the comments first before clicking any link on the internet ever. However, when you first go on the internet you don't know better and end up traumatised.

It's not a question of 'wanting' to see it as such, I dunno, for me it's a almost like a grounding rod, to remind myself how astoundingly fucking lucky, privileged, fucking blessed I am to have chanced upon being born in a first world country and to have lived, relatively speaking, a pretty 'good' life, and to make the most of that life for myself and my family.

Make no mistake, the video I described above remains one of the most awful things I've ever borne witness to, and it absolutely will not get out of my head, even after 14 years or so.

But as daft as it sounds, on some level I think it's a good thing that it's in there, because it's part of my understanding of the massive spectrum of human behaviours, from the evil to the angelic. I try to measure myself on that scale, and to my mind every time I go 'the wrong way', even if it's just to verbally lash out at someone as a result of a moment's anger, I realise I'm reverting to those base and violent instincts and that it's a thoroughly bad thing to do so.

I have no good answer here, but I suppose what I'm saying is that if we understand everything we are capable of as human beings, including the fucking terrible, monstrous, calamitous cruelty and violence, we are given a clear indication as to a path down which we should never travel, and that even the merest hint in its general direction should be forcefully resisted.

Er - there was a poem? It was just the pic when I linkified it. Sorry!

Spoilers are still loaded by the page - so linkifying stops people having prolapsed arsehole pictures in their proxy logs at work ;)

You think the text content alone wouldn't break 99% of workplace's internet guidelines, to be followed on pain on disciplinary action?

Of course it would. However, the number of businesses that do content checking based on the text content of a web page is incredibly small compared to the number of businesses that do content checking of loaded images.

Indeed, and I'm not disagreeing with you at a basic level (I've been asked to spoiler and link offsite on a couple of occasions by a mod here, and I've immediately done so, I have no problem with what are basically common sense guidelines), I'm just saying that BEEX would fall foul of the vast majority of workplace's internet guidelines should a company decide to have a look at what their employees were up to during the day, whether in a designated break period or not.

My fear is that the 'BEEX NSFW RULES' might lull some folks into a false sense of security.

Considering half the threads are full of swearing & that you're probably fucked if you look at the forum at all :DD

There is no correlation between the slump in UK GDP and the launch of Beex. None at all.

In my experience, workplace guidelines may appear strict, but in recent years have boiled down to "does that page look like facebook" by the boss as he walks past the employees screen.

Mind you, 6 years ago, 50% of my firms internet traffic was with one forum. I was the only member of said forum in the firm, and also the moderator. I worked with 50 other people. However, as I was good at my job* the only reprimand was a quiet word in the kitchen, and said site being blocked.

*This is of course the main denominator when employers consider whether private internet use is to be punished.l

:spew:

Hmm, fair enough. I guess it just strikes me as, at best, logically inconsistent that on the one hand people are "rubbernecking" for watching rolling news coverage of the stuff in Norway, but watching stuff like this, is, in your view, basically educational? Not trying to be confrontational, I just don't really understand how the two can be reconciled.

I think it's a question of presentation.

The rolling news is presented, let's be honest, as entertainment.

Flashy graphics, dramatic music, attractive women striking a pose and then reading out not the news but THE DRAMA AND THE EXCITEMENT and here's ALL THE LATEST STUFF THAT'S HAPPENED and anything we're not sure about we'll just fucking make up anyway.

It's not even like they just present the facts, they present speculation and allegations and downright nonsense and they wheel in one 'expert' after another to basically fucking guess at whatever pops into their head (Charlie Brooker's dissection of it in The Guardian the other day was superb).

The news isn't there to inform, it's there to effectively sell itself and its viewing figures, it's not there to present facts, it's there to titillate and entertain, and that's why the coverage of the carnage in Norway was distasteful, and those who followed it were rubbernecking. Plus of course, you can be safe in the knowledge that you won't see any of the nasty stuff, so the truth is distorted and sanitised anyway, like a Hollywood blockbuster getting its PG-13 certificate.

I honestly feel I can learn more about the world, and human nature, and the forces of genuine evil that it is our duty as moral and decent human beings to resist with every fibre of our soul, watching one terrible short clip such as I described earlier in this thread, than 24 hours of rolling bullshit news.

Whether applicable in this specific case or not, the attraction of the macabre and gruesome in general is a pretty well documented facet of the human psyche, is it not?

EDIT - @AE, obv.

Hmmm. No, whilst I can see why you're presenting it like that, the sick internet stuff still strikes me as nothing but voyeurism. You don't need to watch stuff like that to understand what depths human nature can sink to, if you've ever read any decent literature or, hell, read decent news coverage of conflicts and so on. So it can only be for, basically, titillation, to my mind. I don't need to see the entrails to understand what a bullet can do to someone, or to empathise with the effect that it will have on that person's family. It also sounded as if that wasn't the only such clip you've voluntarily watched - I apologise if I've got the wrong end of the stick, of course.

Also, that's a far more cynical view of the 24 hour news than I'd go along with, if I weren't to be far more cynical than that as to why people watched death porn on the internet.

Still, horses for courses, and whatever floats your boat, etc. Insert further cliche here.

EDIT EDIT - @ Craster - yes, of course. It's where a lot of art and literature comes from, for one. And Simpy Red.

I'm not sure that's true really. Things I've seen have generally left a greater impact on me than those I've read about. 9/11 for instance.

Is there no chance your video clip was from some absurdly violent low-budget film, AE? I really hope that isn't quite possible.

I don't doubt that's true, but that's not responding to what I said. A picture can indeed speak a thousand words. But would you have needed to see the mangled remains of the corpses of the dead of 9/11 to understand the horror that man can visit upon man? We're talking about looking at sick stuff here, as per AE's post, not pictures/video generally.

I'm not advocating going looking for that sort of stuff on the internet but just arguing that having seen things does change your perspective in a way that reading about them and imagining it does not. My 9/11 example was really to make the point that although we didn't see mangled remains of corpses what we did see was very graphic, the planes hitting the buildings, people jumping to save themselves from being burned alive and finally the collapse of the towers. I think it probably made me feel a bit differently to how I might have done had I just read about it say, and perhaps seen pictures of the smouldering remains.

I did start reading about the effects of desomorphine, known as 'Krokodil' in Russia, and because the text wasn't quite upsetting enough, flicked on to a video. I saw cheese wire. I saw that cheese wire being used awfully close to some addicts ruined (and I do mean ruined) leg and then I switched off.

I have no need to watch these nasty things. My life is just fine without them.

Likewise swap.avi, which an iron-stomached and mentally-disturbed-enough-for-the-likes-of-rotten.com friend of mine was unable to get through. He briefly described it, the description alone was plenty for me.

Don't go out of my way to search for internet horrors but here are a couple of things that through looking for other stuff I've encountered online.

One of the wrongest things I've seen online is the video to Venetian Snares Find Candace, an excellent breakcore track but the video is pretty messed up. Especially if you replace the doll in this case with a child.

The second messed up thing I've seen would be clicking on a google Image search (safe search off) from JDIC when looking to translate ちつ, when it turned up in an untranslated Donkey Kong Country manga I had. We found out it meant cunt and seems to be related to all sorts of embarrassing bodies style medical wrongness instead of regular porn.
