Hello.

We have a beteo steam group that nobody uses. This am silly. I propose that we use it. So, vote for your game(s) and post with availability over the next few weeks (include GMT please), and/or some alternatives.

Have to get it via steam.

Steam isn't necessarily a requirement for others though, if people want to suggest non-steam games, feel free - Steam's just a good place to congregate pre-game.

Cool - I haven't used Steam previously, but if it'll give me free TF2, that's aces.

Ah shit, I meant to include Plain Sight in this.

Beteors! Buy and play Plain Sight. It's very cheap indeed (£4 atm), and lovely. The plot is this: You are a ninja space robot. So is everyone else. KILL THEM ALL.

The controls are these:

Left click: KILL.

Right click: BLOCK.

Space: JUMP.

E (I think): EXPLODE.

You are now a qualified ninja space robot.

L4D 8 player would be my first choice...failing that, TF2 or counterstrike. TF2 is probably the fave tho as it is free so everyone can play it.

10/10 re-review at Eurogamer for Team Fortress 2.

By all accounts the free version is the full game with very little in the way of restrictions.

FYI, I'm giving it until the weekend, then I'm sorting out a poll for timing. I propose 7pm on Wednesday evening for now, seems as good a time as any. DISCUSS.

I'd imagine that it'll be TF2, judging by its current lead and freeness. It's probably best if we hijack a quiet public server for now - we can use mumble or teamspeak or whatever to speak amongst ourselves if need be.

I could be willing to end my self-imposed PC FPS exile for this. I loved the game on the 360, just a shame it was so woefully undersupported.

I am still very much of the impression that 8 player L4D just fundamentally doesn't work.

You are indeed broken. Versus mode is by far and away the best mode on L4D.

Although I agree that the scoring is not perfect, for having lots of fun it works brilliantly.

It's certainly fun and LOLsome for a while, but then it descends into messing about and people not really being arsed to have another "proper" game because the fundamental mechanics are just so unbalanced. I've never had a successful Bezzie Night(TM) with it that went on strong for much longer than an hour or so.

It's rather imbalanced, and the game as a zombieish thing basically seems to involve either not doing very much as you're trying to ambush, or not doing very much as you're staring at a respawn timer.

To be fair we never bothered with tactics at all. If you worked together as different special infected it could be very good indeed.

TF2 is best with 24 players. You really can't play 3v3 or something. So you'd all have to find a non-shit server that is quite-empty (but not totally empty) then suddenly land on it, and hope players then join to make it 24.

So you wouldn't just be playing with BEEXers, FYI.

This is where the excellent DiRT3, with it's fantastic multiplayer modes, capped at 8 players, would be just perfect.

Cat & Mouse - BEEX style, could be quite something.

I may be just lucky then. I've had many games on versus, albeit its always with people I "know"and not just randoms. Games with randoms rarely ever work.

Why do you think the game is imbalanced? I don't think it is.

I played CS with Ramsea tonight! Does that count? And I knew one of the three maps we played on!

Did you? Which map was that? I dont think I knew any of them!

A night of CSS could definitely work and whilst its not free, I doubt there are many people who own a pc and doesnt own HL2.

May be just have a few Gun games or something whilst drinking beers, for the lolz.

Was that in reply to me?
If it was: The map sizes are designed for 24 players. If there's only 6 then there's a lot of room. The maps fell very empty and boring. You can quite easily see no one else but the person that shoots you dead. Some classes, such as the spy, are completely not worth playing. And others, such as an Engineer, can quite easily dominate. Usually a medic has 11 other people on their team to heal and get uber from. If that's now 2 then they have a much smaller chance, etc.

A lot of the action in TF2 happens where the 2 sides meet and it's a massive spam of enjoyable chaos. You can't really get that in a 3v3. I imagine first time players would get the wrong impression of the game.

Of course, the PROS play 6v6. But they're PRO and about 50x better than all of us put together and the action itself moves across the map like a slider, rather than a sprawling web that the public servers result in.

After bothering to read back, I find it's not in relpy to me.

I thought it was obvious who I was replying to, as you didnt mention anything about the game being imbalanced.

Also, I actually typed the post straight after Mr Dave but forgot to press send so apologies for the confusion. :p

Sorry for the delay on this - Stuff Happening with Polish Girl and then an old former friend wanting back in kind of pushed this out of my mind altogether.

It looks like TF2 is a clear winner, and interestingly* Zest For Bread has snuck into second place with exactly four votes. So whoever those four are, have fun eh?

But yes, I'll be hanging around in the beteo chat when possible on steam, and I humbly* suggest you all do the same, just so we can make a habit of it.

*not really
