MPA are taking BT to court today to try and make them use the same software used to block child porn to block access to Newzbin.

This is after the MPA won a court case and shut down Newzbin only to have it appear a couple of weeks later called Newzbin 2 and running out of reach in the Seychelles.

They are picking on BT as they have 5.6 million users, of which 5.56789 million will be on 40GB monthly caps so won’t be using the Newsgroups

Next thing is Newzbin have a Firefox plugin that will forward you to one of the many other URL’s that have been purchased in preparation for this court case going against them.

Hope the MPA loose as it has ramifications for internet freedom and the MPA are just having another go at Newzbin as they made them look right c**t’s

Does anyone still use newzbin?

I had an account with them for years but after the first bust didn't feel safe giving them all my details again in case TEH FEDS got on the case.

It's amusing to see that 'the industry' thinks they can play whack-a-mole with piracy like this, rather than just embrace reasonably priced digital distribution instead.

They are not the best NZB site, but they have RSS feeds that when used with Outlook rules mean you can sort out TV shows etc quite well.

Give me high quality downloads available for a reasonable price at the same time as the blu-ray is released and with no DRM restrictions, and i'll buy a lot of them. It worked for iTunes, it's the first place I go when I want new music as it is more convenient and just as good quality as the pirate sources.

Currently it is an order of magnitude easier to get hold of a pirate copy of a film in good quality, than it is to downloaded a legitimate copy.

People want convenience and quality on their digital downloads, hopefully the film companies will realise this at some point soon.

iTunes, PSN, and Zune movies through the Xbox not good enough for you? They have a credible selection of stuff. Also, with some trickery, you can get access to Vudu through Boxee which is aces.

Or are you addicted to downloading rather than streaming video content?

I want to download, I want to own my media. Streaming will be great when the technology catches up, but it isn't there yet.
I want 1080p with HD audio.
I want to buy something and choose when I watch it.

I don't think i'm a special case with the above requirements.

What tech needs to catch up?

Vudu has this. You need quite a lot of broadband (10meg+), but it does it. The quality difference between a Vudu 1080p stream and a Bluray looked extremely marginal to my eyes Xbox also does 1080p and 5.1. I'm not sure about the PSN service.

Frankly, I think you are. I think the industry's focus on streaming aligns much better with most consumers, and because of that I think you're pining for something that's never going to arrive.

Tech wise, you need a 10meg+ connection, available in all locations that you want to watch your paid for HD content. I watch my media at home, on the train, in hotel rooms etc... The tech isn't available to let me do that.

You need 1080p and HD audio to watch on a laptop with headphones on the train?

No, but I need a hard, unstreaming, copy on the device. Can't stream in a tunnel, or even out of a tunnel with the state of 3G in this country.
