I came late in life to the cult of DMs, as a younger man I always thought that they were too expensive for what they are. However having bought a pair of the normal shoes I am a convert...super comfy and durable. Wearing the bovver boots also has the benefit of making you feel like a big hard man.

Correction to my earlier statement. I used to wear DMs. I stopped when they started making them in China or wherever and the first pair I tried after that felt very cheap and nasty.
Now I wear an identical looking non-leather version, with solovair sole, made in England, which is actually better wearing - I'm still on my first pair - and cheaper than proper DMs, which are now just trading on their name.

Can't remember the make but I'll have a look for the box if anyone is interested.

Uh-oh.

I have wellies for off-roading, Cat boots for off-roading when it's not that muddy, and a crap pair of trainers for when it's really not muddy.
I also have a couple of less-crap pairs for doing things where I might be in a field (such as when I'm at a steam engine rally, like this weekend just gone).
For going out I do have pair of "proper" shoes, but I've not worn them for a few years now - I tend to go for a pair of black Nike trainers specifically made to look like "proper" shoes (although the Nike tick on the back is a bit of a giveaway).
I've got "going out" trainers which are basically trainers I wear on special occasions that don't require "shoes", and for normal everyday wear I've got another six pairs.

I, yeah, I like wearing trainers, almost as much as I like buying new pairs.

I've usually only had one pair of shoes and one pair of trainers. I'm in the lap of luxury at the moment - I actually own two pairs of shoes and two pairs of trainers.

All are black. I just buy Reebok Classics for my trainers as they're one of the few styles that are actually all black.

Post Mrs Caveman though, I don't really get a say in the matter (and she made me get rid of the DMs to boot). I probably have about 5 pairs of shoes in total - I *think* as follows -

Comfy brown loafers
Soft brown leather 'boot' type thingies that everyone comments 'they look nice', much to my sheer incredulity - I couldn't tell you what shoes someone wears if I'd lived with them for 20 years (Indeed, I can't)
'Normal' black brogues for work
Trainers
Wellies

I *do* like nice suits though; my Boss pinstripe is my fave. And nice watches, too.

2 off pair of grey suede trainer/shoe cross things, both old and naff.
1 off pair of Nike foot movey things, they are really comfortable, but sadly have a hole in which lets in water, lets in water, lets in waaaaater.

So, I have three pairs of smart casual shoes ranging in price from £100 to £120

I have a pair of £200 Kurt Geiger shoes I wear to weddings/formal occasions

I have a pair of Campers for general knocking about in as they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and am on my fourth pair.

I have FiveTen cycling boots

Two pairs of walking boots

Some knackered converse.

I'm terrible with shoes. I usually have one pair of black leather shoes for work and one pair of trainers that get worn at all other times, and both continue to be used until utterly destroyed, at which point I'll buy new ones. Generally once holes start appearing, it's time for new shoes.

Two things though: Firstly, my current job has a casual dress code in force for whenever we don't have customers in, which is 90% of the time. So my black leather work shoes are rarely ever used and my trainers are worn every day without fail. Secondly, I never seem to get around to chucking the destroyed shoes, because you never know when you might want to ruin your feet by wearing some utterly fucked old trainers somewhere, right?

So I currently own:

1 x pair Addidas trainers (everyday use, beige/khaki suede with silver stripes, black leather heels and flourescent green logo, purple laces - every bit as fucking awesome as they sound).
1 x pair black leather Deuschmann el cheapo work/formal shoes.
1 x pair fucked Addidas trainers (the previous everyday pair).
1 x pair black wellies.
1 x pair white Nike basketball boots (from when I actually played basketball).
1 x pair black Nike basketball trainers (see above).
1 x pair blue plimsole trainer things from Next.
1 x pair Northwave white and black snowboarding boots.
