I have shamelessly stolen this from one of the Rav boards. The OP posted:

Quote:
I read this on another forum and find it quite astounding. Can you see the hidden meaning in this picture?

Image

It was taken from this 2010 GCSE exam paper, page 10

Quite apart from whatever you make from it, only about 10% of the people that responded could see what she was talking about, which I found... odd. And I was the only person after 50 replies to mention anything other than the

obvious word spelled out by the bricks

In fact, even after people kept pointing out where that was, only about 25% of people 'got' it.

I just had a feeling everyone here would see it straight away for some reason, and then perhaps spot the other few things I alone did, which may or may not be purposeful (though I'm inclined to think they are).

Blimey. :o

Got it; obvious initial 'clue' but I found it difficult to totally get it, which I did eventually after about 5 mins of staring at it, dribbling as I did so.

Yep, to me it seems to refer to 9/11 or something similar.

Well, there's the twin towers of bricks, the plane, the Stanley knife, the paper-cutout 'jumpers' .

See, I saw all that in a glance. Not one other person did. Not the OP and no-one in the original thread she was referring to, either.

I didn't get anything from the ball other than that it had pentagons on it, but everything else seems so laden with meaning that it perhaps stands out. I mean, what kid is given a stanley knife to make paper dolls with?

PS: are they called stanley knives, or have I made that up?

I just thought it was another weird oral sex thing, like people said about the 2012 logo.

The reality is actually pretty cool. I was trying to figure out what the blocks spelled!

Is that what they are called? Yeah, they used them to do the hijacking, according to reports.

Oh, yes, and they are called Stanley knives here, or at least the grey metal kind. That's more what I'd call a craft knife, but still not for children 8)

Interestingly, the actual GCSE question in connection with with this picture (supposedly 'toy advertising') is all about gender stereotyping, none of this stuff.

Someone has a dark sense of humour at that Examination Board, then. The blocks, in particular, could hardly have been unintentional.

Yes, it has nothing to do with the actual question, just seems to be a very specific collection of items. I can well imagine that it threw a few students as well, because it seems to stand out as being something that should have relevance to the question. I am sure that some students must have spotted the connection, but would have to then dismiss this as it wasn't actually part of the question.

Anyway. It is strange that people here picked up on it a whole lot easier than the folks over there. Really, not one other person spotted any of it, and very few people could read the word on the bricks.

I always thought a 'box cutter' was one of those things you get in retail to open delivery boxes with, not a stanley knife. I learned something today.

Possibly, the picture was originally unrelated to the question, someone just spotted it and used it for that purpose.

That wasn't the exam question, silly, just the question the OP asked on the other forum. The exam question is about gender stereotyping.

Not really odd at all. It all depends on what type of natural abilities you have as an individual. For example, I know people who can't put a coherent sentence together in English, but can work out a nine dart finish in their head almost instantaneously while I'm still totting up what I just scored.
