Apparently Zavvi have priced this at just shy of £400! Knowing how inept Zavvi are, I doubt this is real but we'll see.

Why not? Pre-order now and guarantee getting it on release day at a price of £400, or take the risk on pre-orders, fail to get one, and buy one on Ebay for £750. People will do it.

What's stopping someone pre-ordering from Zavvi and canceling before they ship?

Surely people are just going to look at that and go "Well I'm preorder from Amazon, because they'll charge me whatever price it actually launches at, and not take any money until it ships"?

Wait?! So there is going to be no games that are multiplayer? I figure the controllers are going to be massively expensive, but no two controller games at all? Bah!

It uses wii controllers for local multiplayer.

But not standard wiimotes, just the Wii motion plus thingys apparently.

I didn't realise that you could apparently only use one Wii U controller at one time. This, whilst understandable, makes it less winsome.

I had noticed that none of the multiplayer clips showed more than one screen Thingy in use at any one time, but maybe that will change as new games are developed and Nintendo figure it will be a good time to start making people want to buy another controller.

I suspect that it's a technical limitation of the console more than anything else. Otherwise saying only one controller will work and you can't buy them separately seems a bit mad.

Also, it would probably be $200 For an extra controller.

I too assumed it was a price thing, which is why I though the 'let them absorb the cost and then later suggest additional controllers' idea might be in the back of their minds, but whether this is viable in a technical sense I have no idea.

I've had more enjoyment from the name gags in this thread than I'll ever have from the console.

Nintendo's E3 reveal of this thing was fucking baffling.

Also apparently the game footage they showed was from the PS3/360 versions.

So, the main idea suggestions for use of the WiPad, eg madden play books, etc, are off as it only supports one WiPad at a time. This really doesn't look very good so far.

Which was a bit embarrassing for me because when I was watching them I was thinking they don't even look as good as the XBOX 360 graphics.

Hmm, I get the feeling that the Wii U was prematurely announced as a result of the deluge of leaks about the system. Bit like the 3DS, really.

I really can't muster up much enthusiasm for this, myself. I now own all three main 8th generation home consoles and I can't see myself buying anything other than the new Xbox in the next five years.

The Wii was an absolute fucking disgrace of a console in every possible way so Nintendo aren't getting any more of my money unless they release something that genuinely competes with the MS and Sony offerings of the time. Which certainly isn't the Wii U.

I'm probably more interested in the Wii U than a future Xbox or Playstation. I'm happy enough with my 360 but wouldn't be surprised if the next Xbox was more of the same. I've been eyeing up cheap PS3s on Ebay of late but I don't even know why I want one.. just to own one, I suspect.



I still like the Wii for at least attempting something different. It didn't get everything right, but at least Nintendo gave something new a try.

I will mock this but definitely end up buying one. Just like I did with the Kinect.

I don't feel as strongly about the Wii as Bamba, but it does barely get used. I'll get it out on the odd occasion someone's round and they fancy a game of bowling. I suspect if I got Move for the PlayStation then it'd never get switched on at all. I know I've missed out on a few decent games like Super Mario Galaxy, but I just don't really like the controller in general.

The Wii U seems like more of the same with an extra controller with a screen on it, and slightly nicer visuals.

It would have to be an astonishing piece of kit for me to consider it at this stage.

But they might give you some stars when you buy.

I applaud their decision to innovate in general, but what actually came out of that was crap in my opinion and trying without succeeding doesn't earn them any more of my cash.

The console wasn't crap: it was an innovative little bit of kit.

The games were however, by and large, utter dogshite. There were some gems but nowhere near enough.

The Wii wasn't a shit console.

But Nintendo turned into money grabbing cunts, who put cash before gaming.

One thing I am interested in is the continuation of the Virtual Console and hopefully a Nintendo account that is similar to PSN and Xbox Live accounts. i.e. It actually has a fucking download history and stuff. If that happens, I can see myself loading up on SNES games with gusto.

The way it works on the Wii is not good.

Buy a SNES.

I've read that it's likely to be publisher-specific online accounts, which doesn't seem too promising.

Is there anything good that you can get on the Virtual Console that you can't get on XBLA/PSN?
