Grumblington-on-the-Wold wakes to a sunny day, but dispositions are not sunny once the body is found in the Town Square.

It has a single gunshot wound to the back, and it is ElephantBanjoGnome.

A check of his possessions shows a sprig of lucky heather, and a pocket full of betting slips that had all lost.

ElephantBanjoGnome was a Recruited Carney, but before that he had been the Gambling Townie.

The mafia are clearly still in Town. What can be done?

With 19 people, 10 votes are required for a lynch, and 15 for a no lynch.

The day ends Thursday at 2pm.

There will shortly be a 'Roles and Rules' thread, which may assist (but may not be quoted!).

Wait - the carnival is in town? Yay!

Also, they appear to be hiring.

Hey! That's my line!

Carnies are in town, dirty thieving wretches the lot of them, i'm going to keep an extra special eye on anyone who enters the library from now on.

I am very distressed over the death of Elephant! I can only expect that his gambling past caught up with him, let that be a lesson to everyone, be good and righteous and better yourself through learning and literacy, dirty habits never pay.

<looks at grim...>

Disgusting.

Morning everyone , another death in the town is bad , but it does tell us a lot about what else is going on here.

That ElephantBanjoGnome liked a bit of a flutter isn't that much of a surprise , but that he had been recruited by a carnie sounds bad , very cultish of them.

Also the fact he's dead means that there are still mafia people around , but for the town the good news seems to be that he was both a cult and a mafia target so we don't lose any extra townfolk.

Morning all.

Would you like some bread for that bacon sarnie Grim... it's freshly baked. Best bread in town.

It means we're certain there's still those nasty Mafia types still in the town. We must get rid of them. I suggest taking a look over yesterdays activities to see if anyone looks suss

That seems somewhat tenuous.

More people losing money in this town than I thought, with Grim...s drinking and CBGs gambling. They should be investing in starting new businesses (and asking for me to be their accountant).

I just pressed the button on the counting machine in the town square, and it came out with complete gibberish, did I push the button wrong? I'm not very good with computers.

There must be an incompetant cop around as I was investigated last night and informed of it. So must be an incompetant cop and a real one left.

How do you know you were invested by an incompetent cop? Did anyone else get any night actions?

Ok so a wee bit more information today. We have the mafia, who we knew about and we also have carnys. I for one don't want to be recruited to be a carny, I don't like caravans preferring the finer things in life. I also feel like my beautiful hats would be wasted in a carnival, they really need to be stored carefully.
A bit of luck that the carnys and the mafia both targetted the same person and I'm still hopeful that someone from the government or the police might have come to investigate what is going on.
Hang on...I am assuming that the mafia are responsible for that kill, has anyone checked to see if the bullet was made in Italy?

I was left a note that said I was investigated. That is all.

Normally when someone is investigated they aren't informed, so it must have been an incompetant cop. Or something else. That's just my guess from the information I have.

What did you do to arouse the suspicion of the cop Nick? I am so glad there is law enforcement here, it makes me feel a wee bit safer.

I have no idea. Maybe a random shot in the dark. There wasn't much to go on from day one apart from Sinister acting a bit shifty.

Somebody played a prank on me last night, and superglued the library doors shut! I was stuck inside all night, and couldn't get out till this morning.
I'm a bit frazzled by all the events, i'm going for a lie down.

EBJ is no longer alive, but a culture of fear cannot be allowed to thrive.

If I was a mafia a good plan would be
to draw out the cop by pretending to be
investigated at night and told by a note
puts you above suspicion even if you're a scrote.

Nikachu therefore gets a FoS
He could even be a mafia boss!

That's not a bad call. Especially as I don't agree with his assessment of the investigator as incompetent. Some odd feeling inside me is telling me that isn't how it works.
But I honestly don't care about that. Where the fuck is Joans?

Well buggering hell, as if you lot letting the mafia kill again wasn't enough, it now looks like we have some kind of wierdo carny conspiracy going on as well. I've no reason to trust any of you, still banging on about your shops. You don't catch me trying to flog a PS3 after a murder, do you? Tchah.

I reckon, right, that Trooper's reasons for voting for me yesterday were very solid indeed - I did indeed vote in haste and didn't explain myself clearly at all (you were one of two people on 2 votes, but of the two, voting for you seemed more likely to get someone lynched, which makes it more likely that we'll lynch one of the mafia bastards). So I don't take his voting for me as too worrying.

Nikachu, on the other hand, switched his vote to me without a word, except to make it look as though he'd been insisting everyone vote for me ("Lynch sinister agent dammit"), when in fact he'd done nothing of the sort, having said nothing about me before, and had previously voted for bobbyaro, and then just tried to flog his dirty mafia bread.

[vote: Nickachu].

I don't trust you, but happy to go with your explanation for now, even if I still think it is a bit squirrely.

However, I also don't think Nickachu would be that sly on the note thing, he is only a baker after all! And maybe you are using this as an excuse to jump on him and try to get rid of him, although your reason for voting Nickachu is better than the note reason in my eyes. I just don't know, I don't have an idea either way yet, and don't want to jump into a hasty vote.

I really shouldn't be out here, I've got a load of hats I need to be getting on with right now but I was just thinking to myself as I was adding feathers and glitter to one particular creation, I'm not sure how happy I am with Nickachu's confession that he was visited by a cop last night. It doesn't really benefit us in any way and the only benefit it could bring to him is potentially making some people assume this means he is innocent.
Obviously the cop can't come forward to confirm or deny it at this early stage so it could potentially bag Nickachu a few safe days.
It also means that the bad guys have extra information, assuming Nick is correct. Before, everyone may have assumed there was a cop but wouldn't have known for sure. Now, it is a known fact to everyone. Information is power and I think ti would be better for the goodies to stock up on information and then use it to their advantage, or only drop small nuggets for people to find if something happens to them. (although good luck with that, it's a risky business).
This would be a risky move from Nick though.
As for Trooper, well same thing really. Now we know we also have a prankster stopping people from getting out at night. Is this to stop people from getting up to something, or to stop others from getting into them? I also note there were two actions last night suggesting we have a mafia and a cult. With all the trouble going on here it would be easy for other troublemakers to get involved though...should there have been more to find this morning, stopped by Troopers inability to get out?
I have nothing else to go on so currently supicious of those two for the (admittedly weak) reasons stated. I would be happy to vote today, at least to get a two man race going that might shale out some mistakes or interesting behaviour.

Might I suggest a spritz of the finest French perfume to take the edge off the smell of death that is lingering over our town? As if things weren't bad enough I learn the townie full of carny folk!? Selling knock-off eau de toilette that they've probably made from horse piss or stolen from Boots....it's NOT perfume, do not be fooled!

I need a coffee, I had a very restless night I was tossing and turning right through. I think I may need a lie down soon to recover, if you don't hear from me for a few hours it's because I'm napping.

Although it does seem unlikely that someone would bet on themselves.

Sin begets sin. I suspect the company that EBG kept was his undoing. I would suggest we attempt to recall who he may have angered yesterday.

This town settles well into gender roles, doesn't it? We've got 3 ladies - one sells hats, one sells perfume, and one sells an overly cock-shaped range of produce.

I did have an internal debate as to whether to share that information, but it is only in the interests of the town to get that information out I feel. Keeping that information to myself helps me in no way as far as I could tell, yet sharing it has the possibility of helping the town, which is obviously my main concern!

I'm shocked to see, after living in this town for so many years, that people aren't as they seem. I know, more than anyone, that information is a good thing, I have helped the town for many years in getting them information, i'm not going to stop now!

It's a good job that there aren't two murderers running around, or you'd look properly suspicious now!

Is it too soon for me to knock up some ElephantBanjoGnome commemorative plates?

Perhaps Joans might like some for his function room.

A lot to catch up on today - I've a few thoughts on whats been said so far.

I disagree with what Gilly said earlier , and think that Nic's volunteering information that he's been investigated is useful for the town , as we know there is someone out there investigating whats going on , and they will be in a better position on who to trust / who not to trust at a later stage , and this could be corroborated later on.

I do find it odd that Trooper who also had useful information (that there's a prankster out there) waited until after Nic came forward to tell people (why did you not tell us about this earlier ?) - but it does also tell us that if a visible night action happens tonight that didn't happen last night then its probably him :-)

By the same token it also suggests that he's not the Carnie leader because they managed to recruit EBG

Right now we need to work as a team to get rid of the people who are trying to take over our town , so far we know there are at least two factions working here (Carnie's / Mafia) but there could be others , and the fact that people can be recruited also means we should be looking for people who have any change to their previous behavior.

He really needs a barmaid if he's not going to be here to open up. Maybe he could get one from the NPC Recruitment Agency?

I was still steadying my mind after the actions of the night before, the first thing I said was obviously grief stricken, it was only after Nickachu volunteered his information did I think on what happened to me overnight and whether it was significant enough information that everyone needed to know.

I was scared, I still am scared, I don't want to make myself a target, but like I said, all information is good, so I provided it out of the goodness of my heart. I don't know what is going to happen in the future, how many people are out there and what anything means, i'm just trying to help!

This town settles well into gender roles, doesn't it? We've got 3 ladies - one sells hats, one sells perfume, and one sells an overly cock-shaped range of produce.

But I don't sell hats, or perfume, or any kind of produce. I loan books.
What are you implying?
