Has anyone seen these before?

I'm actually quite taken by the black one - looks kinda like an evolution of the Saturn design. But also check out the crazy one with stuff sticking out the sides! And the Wiimote style controller they considered!

I was slightly worried about opening that page as I have a cough and it may bring up a disk read error.

No seriously, many people would still be using them today if they were not made of paper held together by ghosts.

Nice stuff! Mine still works fine without a problem - if anyone knows where i can 'legally acquire' a copy of Crazy Taxi 2 that would be great....

BTW WTB, did Brink turn up OK? What did you make of it?

Dreamcasts are actually easy to fix if you have even a slight degree of technical skill. I've got two and managed to sort out the disk read error on one and the constant resetting on the other with no problems. They both work brilliantly now.

Mine totally died and to be honest there is no fix for drunkenly putting one's foot through the machine while playing SoulCalibur with the bass fishing rod.

Well, FWIW, they just don't seem especially resilient to heat and dust. The constant resetting issue is caused by pins on the internal power supply getting grubby or warping. Generally, just giving the four pins a quick clean sorts that out. The disc read error is caused by the laser going out of alignment. There's a tiny alignment screw by the laser, giving that the very slightest of turns normally sorts that out too. Suddenly you have a good-as-new Dreamcast again.

I have tried and tried to align the laser, but I have never been able to fix the disc errors.

It requires such a tiny adjustment - if you do it too much, you'll bugger the alignment even more.
