I have a (pretty old now) Canon Powershot A610
Canon Powershot A610 which I think I got new for about £120-£140. I doubt you'd find that exact model anywhere, but if you can find the newer model then I have found it to be a decent little thing to own.
It's macro function is pretty good, and can shoot from about a centimetre away:
(that's a sheared of 2.25mm needle tip end, the actual end being less than 1mm for context)
It's also has a good amount of manual control of DoF, focus, white balancing, shutter speed, etc, so you can get different effects just by playing about with it a bit:
And the auto function isn't too bad, either. Oh, and the video quality is pretty good, too.
