Hello!
I want a 360 so Mrs Grim... can watch media player stuff in the bedroom.

I won't ever be used for games, just streaming. I think someone here said they had one with a bust DVD drive - as long as it still powers up that would be perfect!

Paypal is revved up and ready to go ;)

Why wouldn't you just get one of the cheaper/smaller/quieter solutions that will do media streaming as well as a 360?

Because I'm not expecting them to be cheaper than a broken 360, to be fair.
I could just put a PC together, I suppose.

I think my little brother might still have his old console after he upgraded to the S. I'll ask him!

I thought for a second JC had returned.

I've got one that red ring'ed out of warrenty. You'd have to pay Microsoft to get it fixed so I could virtually give it away.

Mind you, I can't remember if it has a hard drive. I'll check if you're interested.

EDIT: To remove the many typos. I was on my mobile, y'see...

Just checked and it doesn't have the hard drive. Or all the cables.

Anyone want it still!?!?

Just to make a complete set of stuff you've sold me cheap being sold back for silly, I'll sell you mine for £200.

I've found all the cables! They were in the new xbox box; all in their original packaging.

So anyway I've got a 360 without a HDD that has red ringed. Available.

That sounds perfect, if you want rid of it. It doesn't even need a hard drive (or does it - will it work without any form of storage).

Shouldn't need it. Media streaming just sits in memory.

I don't think you need an HD for streaming.

I still use mine mainly for watching TV and DVDs, with the media remote thing. Media collected with sickbeard, no conversions needed. Main downsides: no iPlayer, some fan noise, and high power consumption.

The second point solves the 3rd though, as you don't tend to leave it switched on :)

What about storing the Media Center details, etc?

They will sit in the tiny onboard storage that all xboxen have. No hard drive needed according to Lord Sir Google.

The modern dashboard won't, though, and there are media centre changes in it I think. It needs 256 MB on a memory card or HDD. Having said that, I have two 20 GB HDDs here, so that's not an issue.

Ah, yes. The new dash. You can use DocG's hdd or a 4gb memory stick plugged in the back.

Can you? The new dash introduces the support for USB sticks, so I think there's no way to get it on there in the first place. I think you'd need to use an actual Xbox memory card.

Fair enough. There's never been an xbox sold (new) with no storage at all has there? Even the very first Arcade models had, what, 256mb cards?

I've got one of those hanging around somewhere, I think.
Unless it went to Mr Chris, but I don't think it did.

DavPaz -- no, all the Cores and the early Arcades shipped without storage. I had one. After NXE, the Arcades started getting a chunk of internal flash memory for dash upgrades.

They at least had a plug in memory card, though, right?

Not that came with it, but you could do that.

The spare HDs that are kicking about are the answer, as Doc says.

No, they didn't. That's what I'm telling you! It had empty slots but no way of saving games out of the box. The cards you had to buy separately.
