I fancy a mobile phone that I can use on Giff Gaff. Finally deciding to upgrade from my 3310. I think I'll generally prefer traditional style of text entry and non touch screen.

I don't plan on playing games on it. I just want to be able to check Amazon for things and maybe twitter/facebook/email whatever.

I don't really want to spend much. But that's just because I'm tight. Quite frankly something like the s2 skype phone from 3 would be fine but problem with that is that it doesn't make calls other than through Skype.

£74 on Amazon. THAT'S NOT BARGAINOUS. Well okay it perhaps is for a modern-ish phone. May consider it. Anything cheaper?

Christ, they're holding their value well - it's about five years old :S

PAYG or Contract? And are you really, really sure you don't want a "modern" smartphone? Some of the Android ones have very good physical keyboards.

It sounds like you want a Blackberry. Except they're largely shite.

You can have my old handspring Treo if you want. FREE!

Or, try an HTC G1. Slide out keyboard, runs android, reasonably funky. Also: clunky and chunky. But cheap now.

It does though. The skype stuff's just heavily integrated rather than just an app.

Odd that mine has never accepted calls or made them. Maybe it's broken. I like the idea of free though...

It's PAYG that I'm looking for and I want cheap as I don't like spending money on 'necessities'. I don't make many calls but a bit of interwebnets will be handy. GiffGaff sounds pretty ace. I don't really care for the Qwerty style either. Far too fiddly. (even though I have small hands)

The only significant drawback with the S2 I find is that if you hit the call end button whilst typing on its fiddly keyboard thing it cancels everything you were doing. Completely.

I was on PAYG for years nirej, but I'm pretty sure a £10 a month contract is working out far cheaper - PAYG is fine in theory but tends to scalp you if you accidentally run out of "free" internet or whatever, or have to make a phonecall to a number it doesn't consider cheap - even calling customer services costs you. Plus, arsing about topping it up when you do run out, or being without internet for days at a time because of whatever.

It's only a "30 day" contract too so no big drama if I want to change.

Consider it, anyway.

Also: just learn a new keyboard, either touch or qwerty, everyone thinks it's "fiddly" the first time, but you soon get good at it.
Typing on a numpad is seriously 90s and very limiting.

The QWERTY keyboard seems to be a two hand job and I often need to type with one (fnarrr - Inuendo Ed) so using just my thumb on one hand is really useful. And I'm pretty fast with it. GiffGaff offers 200mins of calls and unlimited internet usage for a month for £10. Then at the end of the month you're left with £10 if you've not used all that up then it's 8p a minute calls and 20p a MB interwebnets. I see this costing me no more than £7.50 a month which is about what I'm paying for my current PAYG system on O2.

@LewieP How much?

However much you want really. Summet like £30/40?

It's not in great nick, has a scratch or two on the screen. CEX would give me £40 for it, but I'd prefer to give you a good deal on an old phone than them.
