I'm in for 45 tickets in total, £1,700 if they all come through. The biggest horror though was when talking at work today I realised - I have an application in for every evening for the entire fortnight. That is going to be one hellish level of sleep deprivation with a one year old in the house too.

However, if I get half of what I apply for, its a miracle. There are some speculative £20 tickets for finals in amongst that lot.

Isn't there a post-allocation resale/bartering system, too?

Just swapping. There isnt any money to be made in it, only an effective refund (in a year) for tickets you dont want if you can shift them.

Ah, but apperently:
Quote:
This is where the issue of the debit card kicks in.The London 2012 organisers are only promising to tell us which tickets we've managed to buy by 24 June, but successful applicants will have the money taken from their Visa account in the middle of May.
[...]
"When you check out of the ticketing website you will be told the maximum value of the tickets that you have asked to purchase. You need to make sure that in the middle of May - and we will remind you - that money is available in your account." [says the 'head of ticketing'].

And the ticket re-sale thing doesn't go online until the start of 2012.

I actually feel a little bit sad (only a little) that I won't be in the country when the olympics is on. It's not that I wanted the olympics to come to London (it seems rather expensive and all that), but it's fun bunking off work and watching sports that are usually of limited appeal but for those couple of weeks seem to become entertaining.

I probably would've applied for tickets had I been around.

As an aside, Lady T's dad has some connections with Panasonic and has had some pretty sweet hospitality tickets and trips from it (Finals in Greece, a holiday in Canada including dog sledding and practically front row seats for that big USA-Canada ice hockey final - someone offered him 10,000 bucks for the ticket apparently*).

*He does exaggerate, but even factoring in that, he probably could've pocketed a decent wodge for that ticket, but didn't. He doesn't even like hockey.

I didn't even think of applying for tickets. I feel a little disappointed in that, but frankly, I could never afford anything, so bollocks to it.

I know they are going to use the army for security and think it's a good idea, but do they think there's really that big of a terrorist threat?

I've heard that there's a lot of art critics considering attacks.

Blimp shooting would be an ace spectator sport, so long as you're far enough away.

I watched a mortar firing competition at Gettysburg this summer, and didn't envy the poor sods who had to run out and mark where the ball had landed.

I'd be surprised if we don't always have a deployment of fixed SAMs. In which case, this wouldn't actually be news.

Also, how do we know their names?

We applied for fourteen tickets to spend the day in the Velodrome watching the paralympic cycling. Didn't get a single ticket. Which is a big shame, as I was planning on making a decent weekend of it. I'm honestly surprised that we got nothing, too.
