Pick it up. Distract it with one hand, and grab its tail with the other.

Get a long tube thing of some sort, boots can work well, chase mouse and it'll dive for the darkness, pick it up and deposit wherever you fancy.

I made my own mousetrap using the following method.

Get an oven-proof dish and its lid. Using a clear glass/pyrex bowl works best as you can see if the mouse is inside without having to open it. Turn them over and place them on the ground, lid-down, in the room in which you last saw the mouse.

Get a piece of string about five inches in length and tie one end to a small object about an inch and a half in height, an electricity metre key worked for me.

Then thread the other end of the string through the middle of a large bit of cheese, tying a knot in the end to stop it pulling back through too easily.

Lift the bowl of the dish up and place the cheese in the centre. Rest the bowl above the lid using the small object, leaving one end of the bowl suspended above the lid on one side. The string should be just long enough to run to the cheese in the centre of the lid/bowl arrangement. The trap is now set.

Hopefully, what will happen is that the mouse will sense the cheese, sneak in between the bowl and lid of the dish where it's propped open then grab the cheese, dislodging the object you've attached to the other end of the string. The bowl will fall down, closing the trap with the mouse inside.

There should be enough air for the mouse to survive for a few hours inside the bowl. In my case the trap was sprung overnight and the mouse was inside the next morning. It did look a bit unhappy but was alive. I walked the trap away from the house and let the little blighter out in the park.

Do you have a tall kitchen bucket? They can't jump out of those. Put a broom handle leading up to the rim. Place pleasing treat in bottom of bucket. Wake to hear mouse jumping again and again. Release in park.

That's what I did.

You need something solid enough to attach the string to, silly. My mouse liked cheese well enough it would seem.

Get a cat.

Then get a burly awesomely-voiced African-American maid to hit the cat with a broom until it catches the mouse.

When I was getting ready for bed last night, I saw a spider in the bath that would have eaten your mouse.

Shall I send over one of our giant house spiders?

I used a tilted bucket and peanut butter and I managed to catch one pretty easy several times before. I took it down to the local park and it must have found it's way back a few times.

I read somewhere that if you drop a mouse within a mile of where they live, they can find their way back asily. So you have to take them furhter.

I caught one using a 'humane' trap thing, and went for a nice long walk before throwing it into a hedge.

Only found out we had a mouse when Jen went to get a duster out of the cupboard under the sink. Loads of stuff in there had been nibbled and they'd chewed a hole in the bottom of Willows food and pulled loads of that out into the cupboard. At the back of the cupboard where the pipes go down, there is a really big gap so they must be living down there as they'd pulled some stuff down there. Later on, I saw one when I opened the cupboard. There must be a few based on the mess they'd made of the cupboard. We've emptied it now and bleached all the surfaces because Willow gets sick really easily and we are worried about the mouse droppings and pee upsetting her delicate tummy.

I walked it about a minute down the road. Needless to say I think I caught the same mouse 4 or 5 times.

They say that if you catch a mouse and put him in your garden, he's back in the house before you are.

Gilly... fill the holes with wire wool and then plaster/polyfilla. The mice can't chew through wire wool. This is what I did in my garage and it seemed to work.

Use fire. Mice fear fire. The beautiful, cleansing fire will free your house of this verminous scourge. Find the area of the house where the mouse live and set fire to it.

Although I think TheVision has the right idea - block up their mouse holes and then make sure there's no food for them. And then buy an owl.

Trufax. From a similar experience in my student days trying to catch a persistent mouse in a third-floor flat, they'll take cheese if they're really hungry but they will go for something with a sweet scent much sooner. Smear peanut butter on a bit of chocolate.

I found a mouse in my kitchen this evening. I heard some tapping from under one of the cupboards and when I went to investigate, I saw a mouse in the corner with the bottom half of his body in a mouse trap. It must have been one of the ones I set ages ago when I saw a mouse in my living room.

Anyway.. He was still alive but not in the best of shapes so I picked him up and chucked him in a bucket of water to finish him off.

I've been having some work done on my central heating the past couple of days so I hope it's the noise and stuff that's disturbed him and brought him in rather than an infestation. >:|

I've just caught another mouse in my kitchen. I'd just got back from a night out and as I went into the kitchen, I saw it dart across the worktop, over the cooker and go under a milk carton that was left out for recycling.

I don't like mice but I could see his nose sticking out. I went a bit closer and he snuggled in under the carton more. This was my chance! As quick as a flash I slammed both hands on the carton to trap him. I thought he's still be alive so I dragged the carton to the edge of the counter to dunk him in a jug of water to drown him.

Turns out I probably pressed too hard on the carton because he was dead by the time he hit the water.

I hate mice!

It might be worth getting a couple if humane traps and putting them down for a month or two, and find out how they are getting in.
